Tein Basic review

Tein Basic review
I had my tein Basics installed last night and I thouhgt I would write up a preliminary review. I havent put many miles on them so my thoughts might change. So Far these coilovers are magical. I really cant believe how flat the car corners and how little the car dives under braking or accelleration. I strongly reccommend these coilovers to anyone who is looking for a great affordable way to improve on the already awesome rx8 suspension. The only negative side effect is that I cant feel the back end breaking out as smoothly as I previously could. Now its more of a sudden loss of traction. The ride is almost as smooth as stock and now feels more connected and dampened corectly. I think the stock dampners are underdampned a little bit for my taste. I really prefer the ride of these coilovers to the factory ride. I will post some pictures if you guys want but I have the ride height set at almost factory so it doesnt look all that different. But it sure handles differently.

to help your backend, get your alignment done with some negative camber. that helped me when i installed the tein's. mine slides out all over the place like butter when i want it to, better than factory.
I have to say, for the money, these are fantastic and a great cure for all that roll you get with the factory set up. They lower pretty far too.
I'm sure there's a more expensive Feed set or something that would be better, but they'll cost you twice as much.

yo
agreed. It is much better than stock in just about every way. Do you happen to know the settings you used when you had an alignment? Aslo
i was wondering if the ride gets progressively worse the more you lower it?

i had them do 3 degrees negative camber.
my ride is pretty good cept on rough roads, not too stiff at all. I have them set as low as possible while still keeping the springs under tension when the car is on the jacks. here's a pic.

Well after a few days with the Teins I thought I would check in. Since everything settled the car looks awesome on a scale from 1 to 10 for handling I have to give this thing a 9. This is by far the most responsive car I have ever ridden in. As far as ride quality goes Its has deteriorated a lot. At first I thought it was fine but I think since the car has settled the ride has gone to crap as far as ride quality goes I would give it a 3. If you are interested in preserving ride quality at all please consider a different option

I had a HPDE session the day after installing TEIN Basics. The car was lowered about half way. The subtle body roll that comes with the OEM suspension is gone and the car feels a bit more responsive on turn in, possibly because the lowering gets more negative camber in the front wheels. Two race experienced instructors raved about the handling. On the downside, I almost lost my fillings driving home over a rough portion of road and one of my kidneys might be missing. The ride is quite decent on good pavement but noticably firmer. In summary, if you don't track your car and live in an area with a lot of less than smooth roads, I wouldn't recommend them. The stock suspension is very good and these offer improvement only at the extremes of handling which is what I wanted.

I got mine installed for over 2 months now, corner is good but body heavily rolling under uneven rough road.
I already did alignment, the guy set 0 to the camber but add like +2 on toe on one side. I don't know if thats a proper alignment setting, numbers are not even on both sides.
Any suggestions?
I lower almost the max with 1 inch left adjustment..

Those are okay numbers, but the rears are pretty uneven. 2.6 degrees of negative camber is pretty excessive. I'd run more negative camber in front and less in the back and try to get more even side to side.

the bukkake master!
im in the process of getting my basics installed now. i have a question tho. at the maximum height adjustment will the car still be dropped? meaning if the adjustments was as high as it can go will they still drop the car. i dont want it dropped too much thats why im thinking about maxing them out. any ideas? thanks

does anyone know how the roads are in Phoenix? I live in Fargo ND now and there are a lot of frost joints in the road so I think that is what is screwing with my ride quality. I spose its safe to say the roads in phoenix would be a lttle smoother?
