Exclamation STAY AWAY from the rotary valve stem caps!!!

I have had them on my 8 since 9/2003 with no problem, until last week. Since they stick out beyond the wheel, I accidently touched a curb and it evidently hit the rotary valve stem cap and "POOF"..............the valve stem broke! After a $175 replacement valve stem with the sensor in it. I have went back to the nice reg. length plain aluminum valve stem caps. Just thought I'd warn you guys!

You may not want to blame the valve caps, but they are indeed the problem. Of course, touching one to the curb was a long shot, but I touched it so lightly that I did not even know it. The valve stems are ALUMINUM=soft. Extending them in anyway beyond the wheel will cause the valve stem to break off if they touch a curb or whatever. If you have them on your car, it can happen to you too! And then you will find out that it's not covered under warranty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bye bye $175. Hello new valve stem.

The sick part...that looks like an M1 (Miata). How you could run into a curb with that I will never know. They are so easy to maneuver.

Was tempted to get the rotary valve caps myself, but I've heard that some people have had serious problems with them corroding or whatnot...at which point they become a major PITA to remove. So yeah, I'm sticking with my plain plastic caps.

Well, I have them and have had no problems so far. I'm sorry that some people have had theirs stolen. That's a positive for living in a low crime area, I guess.

I check the air in my tires fairly regularly, so I don't let the caps sit for really long time without removing them. Maybe that is why I haven't had trouble getting them off. If they are a tightened a little too much, I just grab a pair of work gloves and they twist right off.

The front spoiler is a bad thing to have on your car because it can get destroyed if you push it into a curb........ :p

Very true. Although I had my RX-8 with front spoiler for 1.5 years before I finally pulled in too far to a parking space facing a curb. Even a slight impact with the concrete at ~1-2 mph scuffed the plastic pretty bad . The good thing is that the scuffing is mostly on the bottom/underside, so you don't really notice it unless you're inspecting the front of the car.

wow why would some punk *** kids steal stem caps for a car they more than likely dont have? rx8 owners generally arent the type to steal accesories...sounds like something civic owners would do.

You should not use black plastic valve stem covers because someone might steal them again.

rotary-shaped valve stem caps?! Jeebus, like there isnt enough crap on the car thats already triangle shaped. I guess do whatever floats your boat though.

And uhh, the problem is with the valve step cap, he didnt hit the curb with his rim, its the valve stem thats STICKS OUT from the rim thats the problem.

Yea, someone also stole the black plastic vavle stem caps off my car to0. Still cant understand why you would steal them off a car, you can get a 4pack for like 0.59
