SSR Professor SP1 Wheels on Order...

2 Attachment(s)
Well they should be here in a few weeks...:)

monzter 08-13-2004 01:35 PM

Those wheels should look great on that car...did you ever get the stock wheel studs weighed?

cortc 08-13-2004 01:43 PM

Will post the weight tonight, have the scale there...

HottRodder 08-13-2004 03:12 PM

Congratulations! I love that wheel.

I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish i wish tonight.....

Magic8 08-13-2004 05:15 PM

cortc, where did you get those wheels? I love SSR stuff, lightwieght and strong.

canaryrx8 08-13-2004 05:33 PM

don't care for the rivets, but those are sweet.

ranger4277 08-13-2004 05:46 PM

Are you getting those for your car? What will you do with the Hiros?

ScudRunner 08-13-2004 06:07 PM

i suppose you gotta have the rivets if you want three piece wheels...and who doesn't want three piece wheels? :D and ranger, if you check the parts for sale forum, you'll see that cortc has offered the Hiros up for a pretty good price...of course, they might be taken already...

IZoomZoomI 08-14-2004 02:38 AM

here's another pic of a member with the ssr professors (fronts) https://www.rx8club.com/attachment.p...chmentid=18394

cortc 08-14-2004 07:40 AM

The stock lugs are 2.1oz each, the new titanium ones are .96oz each...

Yes the SSRs are 3 piece, you can actually get three piece wheels with hidden bolts HRE makes some but they are really expensive and HREs are not that light...

The hiros are for sale...

LoPo 08-14-2004 12:02 PM

How much are you selling them for cortc? I don't see them in the forsale forum.

cortc 08-14-2004 02:12 PM

There is a post...

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=35644

You can have the wheels for 1,250 + 50 for shipping and I can get you a set of tires for 596.00 + 50 for shipping...

Rob Tomlin 08-14-2004 07:40 PM

Good choice, I like them better than the gunmetal hiros.

I saw three pairs of these at a car show in cali today

cortc 08-15-2004 01:47 AM

Well, they are very good wheels; some specs:

Front (19x8.5 47mm Offset 34mm Lip) 20.5lbs
Rear (19x9.5 55mm Offset 59mm Lip) 21.5lbs

Tires will be Hankook Ventus K104s 235/35-19 and 265/30-19 f/r

TPMS should work...

sup3rbad 08-15-2004 03:59 PM

congrats... those are actually my current favorites, I cannot I'm not jealous... so i'll just say this... I'm JealouS!!!!!!!!!

BTW how much did they set you back?

shelleys_man_06 08-15-2004 05:21 PM

Those wheels are pretty damn cool, but I can't imagine them on an RX-8. To each his own. :)

WTF no turbo 08-15-2004 09:33 PM

I almost bought professors actually i did but the guy i bought them from lied about stock.I wanted the hyper silver.I actually just ordered them again for my 7 since it wont be running till next year i can wait 10 weeks.

cortc 08-15-2004 11:31 PM

Yes, mine were special order as well, they are coming from Japan...

cortc 08-27-2004 02:11 PM

They cost me 2,650.00 delivered, and should be here by the end of September... The car is now sitting on jack stands in the garage as I sold the Axis hiros...

shelleys_man_06 08-27-2004 02:56 PM

Yummy. SSR wheels are one of my faves. :)

cortc, you have the wheel setup that I want, minus the tire aspect ratio. Aren't they a little bit too low-profile?

cortc 08-27-2004 03:22 PM

Well they are 19s, and yes they have a slightly smaller rolling diameter but not enough to be a problem... The stock is 25.9 and the 235/35 & 265/30s are 25.4, that is 820 vs. 804 Revolutions-Per-Mile respectively...

shelleys_man_06 08-27-2004 03:27 PM

Oops. I didn't see the 19" in your sig. My setup is similar, but using 18" ADVAN RG's. I need money. :(

cortc 09-01-2004 12:49 PM

Well the ship leaves Japan today for the US and my wheels are loaded on it in a container... It should be another 3 weeks till I get them... That wait is killing me...:)

bureau13 09-01-2004 03:23 PM

Do you think the wider tires in back will negatively impact handling? There was an article about the JIC car, and they had some problems running wider rear tires.

jds

JeupRX-8 09-03-2004 10:55 PM

They are selling these on the Z-car sight. In-stock...

http://www.350zmotoring.com/forums/s...threadid=12373

cortc 09-03-2004 11:15 PM

Those won't fit the 8...

cortc 09-28-2004 02:56 PM

I am very patient but am getting very tired of seeing her sitting all alone in the garage on jack stands… Should have paid extra and had them sent via air…:(

RotorManiac 09-28-2004 05:05 PM

all good things come to those who wait, remember?

:)

Rob Tomlin 10-01-2004 10:13 PM

Are they here yet???

cortc 10-01-2004 11:16 PM

No, still waiting...

Rob Tomlin 10-03-2004 10:52 PM

That wait has gotta be killin' ya!

These wheels are definitely at the top of my list right now. Still trying to decide between 18's or 19's though.

cortc 10-04-2004 12:14 AM

Not here yet, I am going to check on them in the morning...

Rob Tomlin 10-04-2004 05:24 PM

Ok, I have a decision to make.

I can purchase these right now in a staggered fitment as follows: 18 x 8 and 18 x 9. Price is $411 each for the 8's and $420 for the 9's for a grand total of $1662.00. This is for the "Super Black Coat" which some people refer to as "black chrome". This is the finish I think I want based on the pics I have seen.

These wheels are very difficult to come by right now. Based on the pics I have seen, they are at the top of my list, so I feel some pressure to order these before they are gone. At the same time, I want to be sure I do this right.

What size tires can I put on the 18 x 9 wheels? Can I put the stock tires on the 9 inch wheels (225's)? If so, would this look stupid?

What are the disadvantages to a staggered setup (besides not being able to rotate tires)?

And last, am I doing the right thing by getting 18 inchers, or should I move up to 19's?

Sorry for all the questions, but it is hard for me to spend this kind of money (despite the great price) without actually being able to see the product.

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

jgoldstein2000 10-04-2004 09:18 PM

Rob,

Where did you find these?

but seriously....these were the only ones I could find, so I really am hesitant to say where I found them for fear that they will vanish immediately!

okey dokey... were they only offering them staggered... i am leaning toward keeping the 18 x 8's...

I was leaning that way as well, I just don't know.

Unfortunately they only have two 18 x 8's and two 18 x 9's, so I would have to go staggered if I get these rims now.

I was told that it will probably be around February before they get more of them in stock.

Still don't know what to do.

I can't comment on the staggered issue... seems strange to me but haven't seen in person and don't understand enough to know the advanages... but the wheels are gorgeous!

Yep, that's them!

Stay away!

;)

goforwand 10-05-2004 02:34 PM

Here's a quote from a vendor that sells the SSR SP1. I just did a quick search on Google to check out some pricing and sent off an e-mail....

"Hello,

Super Black Coat SSR SP1s are not in stock. SBC is custom color so additional $100 per wheel will be charged. ETA for these wheels will be 4-6 weeks upon ordering."

These guys had reasonable pricing, but with the $100 surcharge for SBC, you're getting an awesome deal!

(P.S. If you don't want them, P.M. me...they would look great on my Velocity Red :D )

I am pretty sure that you emailed the same people that I did, especially if you got the info via a Google search (I did the same thing).

And yes, based on their email, I realize that the price I was quoted is excellent. In fact, it makes me feel the need to double check all the specs and measurements, and confirm it was for the Super Black Coat.

Rob Tomlin 10-06-2004 02:21 PM

You know that saying "if it sounds too good to be true...."

Well, I called today to order the SSR Professor's in the Super Black Coat finish. I specifically wanted to confirm that this was for the SBC finish. The salesman came back and said "no, I'm sorry, I was referring to the Black ones when we spoke before".

Oh well. I admit that I may not have been specific enough when we spoke the first time regarding the finish I wanted.

Anyway, they won't be able to get these wheels for at least 10 more weeks.

The wait continues.....

That's too bad....I would have loved to have seen them on your car, or mine for that matter....

Don't want to pry...but what vendor did you work with if you can say? I e-mailed gruppe-s.

http://www.gruppe-s.com/SSR/SSRProfessor.htm

At a quick glance, their prices seemed pretty good. They also have a staggered set of Advan Model 6 in Silver under the clearance section for $1995 shipped which is about $400 off the regular price.

(Still not as nice as the SP1's w/SBC:( )

Rob Tomlin 10-06-2004 04:39 PM

Yes, Gruppe-s was one that I talked to as well.

Here's the funny part: My "secret" source was Tire Rack!!!

They only show 19 inch rims on the website, but I figured I would call them to see if they had 18's too, in the Super Black Coat. Well, you know the rest of the story....

All that being said, I am still ordering these wheels from yet another company who also gave me an excellent price! Unfortunately I will be in the same boat as Cortc, and it will probably be an 8 to 10 week wait.

If anyone has any last minute suggestions regarding going staggered or not, I would appreciate it!

BOOSTD 7 10-07-2004 11:43 PM

Why would you spend $2650 for rims and get crap Hankook tires? Makes no sense to me ...

Hankook k104s are very good tires, rated as good as the S03s that I have had in the past... I actually like the k104s better... I would buy the S03s in a second, but why pay more if your not getting more...
