Squeaky noise from Tein basic

Installed Tein basics last night and a “squeaky” noise is come from the rear of the car.
It sounds like plastic on rubber….
Also have Tanabe sway bars that use rubber bushings.
Maybe some WD40 on the rubber parts of the shocks might help?

all coilovers make a lil squeaky noise. It's normal.

Did not know that.

Damn, I'm going to be pissed if I have this problem and it gets annoying...

How about we say "some" coilovers make noise. I had JICs and now have the TEIN Basics and neither make noise if they are installed correctly.

Is there a big difference between the jic and the tein basics after switching coilovers as far as handling goes? Btw I have the Tein Basics and have some sort of squeaking in the rear as well.

Do yours sound like a kid with a squeaky toy in the back?
It's driving me nuts!

Will try to grease or oil the top hat where it meets the springs....

Would it do harm if I take of the end links of the sway bar and drive for
Mile slowly? To eliminate that the sound is coming from the sway bar?

lennon 07-01-2005 09:07 AM

I dont think that is normal at all. I have a Tein Super Street n no such noise at all.

RotorManiac 07-01-2005 09:19 AM

I have the HKS hipermax II and they make no noise at all... and the roads here are really bad...

DARKMAZ8 07-01-2005 09:22 AM

the squeak is 99% from the sway bars.

x-ped 07-01-2005 09:51 AM

Coilovers shouldn't make a squeaky noise, as Darkmaz8 said it may be your sways...

modena 07-01-2005 11:14 AM

Took the end links off and sway bar, squeak still there....
Reseated the springs, same thing....
Used WD40 on all rubber mounts bushings ext...
Will know later today if it's fixed. Have no hope that it is....

modena 07-01-2005 07:26 PM

All is OK.
No more squeaks, ext.
As said in this tread, it is either a sway bar issue or an installer problem.
It was the installer, me!
I did not really tighten the top nut/screw on the shock.
Hence it gave me a squeaky toy sound.
Should have known better!
But it's my first coil over install and hey, I am learning.

Now set my preferred ride height :)

Yes I did, car was great riding with the H&R's but when it takes 4 men
To lift your car on the ramp for an oil change?
Also was a bit worried that when I should ever need a tow, hopefully never :)
That it would be impossible to get it on the tow truck without damage.
As the ride stands now it is a 2 fingers gap, and rides much firmer.
In combination with the Tanabe sways there is almost no more body roll, dive, or squat....
Al in al the Tien basic is a better match then the H&R springs alone.
Should have gone this route in the first place.

Will try to do pix later, party to organize now....

if you call or email teins they will say its normal many people complained to them about the little squeak. Some people are not up to date ill stand by what tein said

jowettw 07-04-2005 06:18 PM

how is the ride quality?

Tough to explain: But here it goes,
Firmer, more planted, not as low as the H&R :)
Steering is noticeably more directed, acceleration and breaking is more fun now,
Sins dive and squat is almost none existence.
Main point here I would buy them again!
Got a feeling they will outlast the car.

The JIC were better. I really miss the way they handled. The JIC's ride was a little stiffer in the front and softer in the rear. The Basics feel almost bouncy in the rear compared to the JIC. The JIC has more road feel and noise which I believe is due to the pillow ball top mount on the fronts. I guess you get what you pay for. The JICs were great but the Basics cost half as much and are still nice.

I had a squeek with the JICs that sounded like I had a 500 pound cricket in the trunk. Turned out to be the top mounts had slipped to the side and the collar that slides over the top of the shaft was rubbing on the top mount. It grew progressively louder and drove me nuts until I figured out what it was.

Here are some pictures:
Pict 1 is H&R
Pict 2 is Tein Basic

Tein's ride height was set following the instructions, can go lower if needed.
