Source and best price on Rays Volks?

Anyone got a good source for Rays Volks? These are the same as the MS wheels (and like only 17.6 Lbs!) but are apt to be cheaper... but I can't find a vendor. Can anyone help?

Great, that helps folks. But....
I thought "Rays Volks" are different from VOLKS wheels... Volks I can find, just not the Rays version. Looking at all the Volks, the Mazdaspeed wheel looks different... not exactly like any of the Volks. So, any suggestions? |
Rays Engineering makes the Volk Racing branded wheels. I think the MS wheel must be MS-only, but made by Rays. Rays also makes the wheel for the Track-model 350Z, and I think the wheel is available only for the Z. So the only way to get that particular wheel model would be to get the Mazdaspeed version.

One other thing to consider: Wheel weight. The factory 18" wheels weigh about 23 Lbs each. Larger wheels usually weigh more. If you're after performance you definitely don't want heavier wheels as they add "unsprung weight" which is the worst kind. What I'm trying to do is stay with 18" wheels and find something that both looks good and weighs less. Hope this helps. |
do you really need to get Rays or Volks? SSR has a few different types of wheels (the most known one is the competitions) where weight for 18x8 or 18x8.5 is 16.9lbs or 18 or so lbs max. They are good wheels, but they'll run you about $450-$500 a piece.
|
You might also consider the Volk TE37 and CE28. Both are about 16-17lbs depending on wheel width.

Volks are expensive though. You'll be paying at least $1600-1700 for a set of 18s.

My thoughts: I'm between the ce28 and the GT-N. monoblock vs 2piece, lighter vs better looking... I'm also staying with 18 (18x8fr,18x9rr) since 19 are too expensive & heavy. I'd buy the ce28 straight away (its only 16-17lbs!) if the gt-n is much heavier, but I can't find the weight for this one:( In mine opinion, the ce28 looks better than the te37. However, the gunmetal gt-n will be just great on my black 8. You see, I simply can't decide:o What I don't know yet, is the offset (not sure what values are good to have) and what tire dimensions to put on... Help anyone? |
I like the CE28s as well in titanium silver. Anyone have these on their 8 yet?
|
If you're looking at 18s, I would get the CE28s either in 18x8.5 or 18x9, both come in +40 offset. You can fit 245/40 tires on either wheel. But if you go with 18x9s, you can always get wider tires.
|
If you're looking to not spend $2k, I think Volks are out of the picture. You might look at Enkei wheels, most of which will run about 19-20 lbs each in 18x8.5 or 18x9, but will be much much cheaper. But I think they look cheap too.

I bought my volks from Rishie at autornd he has a spot in the vendor section of this site. I could find no better price than what he offered.

Maybe you could find someone in SoCal to buy 'em for you and ship them to you? |
Omi,
I've done alot of research, and unfortuantely, to get any truly light weight wheels, you looking at spending at $2K for the wheels. You could save some money on the lighter weight enekei types, but I hear they are alot more fragile. the closest wheel to the MS one is the SSR GT2, and they are about $450 a wheel? and really light. Match them with a good set of Toyo's and your talking about a 8lb saving per wheel. I think to really feel the difference, you'd have to go that light....so all in your talking 3K with tires, which as someone will surely point out, is as much as a turbo kit. I'm going to start buy getting lighter weight tires when mine burn out, see how that feels, and then decide. I may decide still to go the light weight 8 option, and rather than turbo the car, just strip as much weight off as I can to get the car down to the 2600lb range. Good wheels also have a good resale value on Ebay for what I can tell, if you decide to get rid of them in the future. If I could only find 10K on the street, these decisions would be so much easier...... |
