Should I??? (Rim Input Needed)

Hi,

I'm going to be changing my current rim set-up of GramLights 57s cast 18x8.5 +30 for 1 of 2 used rim sets I've found. The car has a fairly aggressive alignment & is going to be headed to the track a few times over the summer, along with spirited driving around home.

I very much like the +30 fitment & I'm curious that if in the case I get the BBS' & add +10mm spacers will that be safe for the track? Will I need to get extended wheels studs? I have zero experience with spacers & would appreciate any valuable input.

And of course, which wheels would you prefer to run & why? (note: the used Advan's are a little more expensive)

1.) Evo X MR BBS (gunmetal)- Forged, 18x8.5 +38 (with 10mm spacers? Studs?)

OR

2.) Advan RZ (bronze)- Cast, 18x9 +25 (most likely & will that fit?)

Thanks in advance!

The Advans can fit if you're willing to do a little bit of work. Also what tire size are you looking at running?

Sorry, I should've included that info in the thread post.

I'll be running 245/40 Direzza Star Specs.

What about your suspension?
Topgear8 runs 18x9 +25 on 265/35 with rear fenders rolled and the bumper tab shaved I believe. Check his car out. I don't know much about the spacers, maybe someone else can help with that.

For track use, forged.

i think most people would say take them off when you get to the track, but i don't think a 10mm and 38 offset will need extended lugs. SOMEONE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG BEFORE THIS MAN'S WHEELS FALL OFF

Pickup up the MR BBS wheels, but with 15mm spacers instead of the 10mm I had originally intended (seller had them so I figured I'd save myself the trouble of sourcing them myself).

So now the offset is potentially +23 but my question still remains; is it safe to run spacers at the track?

Do the spacers have built in extended studs? Do they show signs of fatigue at all? Lastly, would you happen to know the brand?

Spacers are regularly used by many at the track not only due to wheel fitment, but to clear large brakes. Spacers can be safe for track use depending on the questions above, as well as that they are installed correctly and torqued down properly.

Also, drum is incorrect. Slip on 10mm spacers, which is most common for 10mm size, do in fact require extended studs. Anybody reading this thread, do not run 10mm spacers without extended studs!

They're Ichiba brand ultra light hardened alloy (series 2) spacers with studs in VGC.

I'm running stock calipers, so clearance is not an issue.

Regarding the brake clearance comment, I just meant that spacers are used in race applications, that being an example.

These are hubcentric I'm guessing?

As long as there are no signs of fatigue on the spacers and everything is torqued properly, you'll be fine
