Shipping wheels

Curious about something. I have a friend that will likely being selling off his stock wheels from his Mazda3, and how exactly do you ship rims w/ tires? I mean, I guess if you could find a box that would holdup that you could UPS Ground them, but I imagine that would be very expensive?

Yeah, true. What does it run nowadays, $50/rim? Probably will be best if he sells them locally since the stockers aren't worth much I suppose.

I used FedEx ground last time to ship four 16 inch rims that weighed 21 Lbs a piece. Ran $50 with insurance of $400.

Take care,

Brian

I shipped my OE wheels using the boxes my aftermarket wheels came in with USPS. Rates have gone up since then so no idea what it would cost.

you need to purchase bubble wrap and thick cardboard boxes and cut the bubblewrap and cardboard boxes into circles that you place over the rim face and back of the rim. obviously dont put bubble wrap on the back of the rim though. then use a crapload of tape to tape it all around and around the front and back of the rim and over the tire. aside from the tape, the tire will be exposed. take it to fedex when done, they will be the cheapest.

If you need to ship wheels you can do the following to package them without boxes:

From LA to NY the shipping of one 47lbs wheel is ~$20. If you happen to ship to some remote town the shipping can get more expensive.
