RX8 with 20" Maido ST5 wheels staggered

hello team
just wanted to share my setup
in case anyone is intrested in same or similar setup
im posting pixs just for clarification and such not to say
"hey i got new wheels look at me".so pls no need to discuss
if my wheels are to big and performance and that other crap.
im only posting to help clear up the air or to show people what is possible if you decided to go that way.
my car is mostly show and im attending funk flex car show in a/c
sema show and hot import nights.

well my setup goes like this
wheels are maido st5
20x9 front and 20x10 rear
38 offset front & 44 offset rear

toyo proxes tires
front 245/35/20
rear 275/30/20

as of now there is no rubbing
i have only had one passenger in the front with me.
no rear passengers but i have a stock wheel in trunk and
a 1 ton jack probably weight 30-40 lbs or so.

i feel a bit of oversteer over stock wheels but they ride 5x better than those crappy tires mazda and nissan gave us.(z owners)

but i cant wait to do the tein coilover suspension
i know i might have a problem then with rubbing but hopefully not.
we will see
hope this was helpful.

I like those wheels but I can't really see them to well. Can you take some more profile shots with better lighting?

sharp....very sharp. Doesn't matter if others don't like them. It's nice to see some variety around too!

You got one of the best looking cars around. Nice wheels, and set up. Thanks for sharing your set-up. Many of us were not sure how wide can we go, and you certainly have cleared up few concerns. If you have time could you post pictures from the back or the front. One more question regarding handling: does the car feel more plantedf with these tires? How about tramlining, does the car follow the grooves?

Again thanks for the help...Much appreciated

Mark

I'm normally not a fan of 20s, but those look beautiful. I'm very impressed, well done.

How much did that set run you?

I like them. Nice choice, I can't say I'd have gone with 20", but still a nice choice of wheel.

mark thankyou for a great comment
yes that car feels way better on the road
i dont feel ever bump it rides good at speeds 15-85
havent really gone faster than that if i need speed i just take out the s4. :D
im amazed that the car feels so much better on the roads it makes me wonder what they were thinking when they put potenza's on our cars.
if any local 8 members want to see how the car rides feel free to let me know i can gladly prove it.

I think it looks awesome. I do not think 20's look to big on the 8. Good choice!! That is one sweet ride!

wow..i have to say i was coming into this thread with hesitation because I think 20's on the 8 are rediculous especially chrome BUT...i actually think you have out done yourself...they are not to OUT THERE like others who have placed 20's on their 8's here...Just a note though..you will most definitely have to roll your fenders if you move to the Tein coilovers...but i have to give you the ole Randy Jackson..."yo yo yo..what's up dog..that was phat!"...nicely done...that will be a beautiful show ride...

I just looked on one site though, but 20x9's ran 1,190 ea. without tires!!!

I saw that price at RIMSTOP

yes guys they are a bit expensive
i didnt get them from the net cause i know once they send them out they wont care if my car will look/drive like crap.
there are some known local shops in my area ny/nj
on rt 46. its better that way, it took close to 3hrs measuring/installaling and such.i wanted to make sure i wont rub getting even of the lift.:D
im glad i did it that way.never buy wheels on line unless your positive that they will fit and such.but a great fit and im so lucky
that they did.my search was for a 5 star to compliment the car and not for nothing but the factory wheels look great.

also they do come in 18" but im sure they are also expensive.
but well worth it,i even like the silver wheel.makes the lip look bigger.

xero thankyou i know what you mean, when i saw some rx8's with 20" i almost changed my mind and wanted 18-19"
but i knew the 5star/lip wheel would look nice on the 8.
not a whole bunch of lines/bars and whatever 20" wheels people get just to say there 20.i have had 2 people confuse them for 21-22 and 1 person said that they are 18" strange but maybe they dont know much about cars.too each its own.
but i get nothing but compliments when on the road.
the most fun is the attention i get from z and g35 owners
i see it in there eyes they wish they got a 8.

p.s some guy pulled up to me on the light and said " you work for a chiropractor? " i said no.he said "well everyone back here is breaking there neck".

it wont cost me much maybe $50 a wheel well.

Wheels

Kel,

I like them, it looks good. My guess is you will have to create room for a drop, my 19s just fit and a few have asked me if they rub, I have Tanabes (1.4fr/ 1.2rear). Good luck and be sure to post when you have your height settled, it should look "boomin".

well to tell you the truth theres 2 ways to do it
and i have done both on my cars ( i physically never did it) 1st is usually the rear but you can do all 4 corners.there is a small lip that goes into the wheel wells maybe about quater inch.it is exactly what it sounds like- they roll that lip to make it almost flush with the wheel well panel.(bending it in)
if not done that hits the tire leaving it too rub.depending on how low or big the wheels are you can get a nasty grinding noise.but most important is you can have a blow out or have your car sound like...
other way i like but has to be done right is cutting that peice off
of course i recommend only a bodyshop to do it and a shop that has worked on street/show,etc cars.

thanks guys for the compliments
i hope when i do the suspension and only reason i want coilovers is too not have my car dropped in the rear and have a gap in front.i know all springs dont do that but i cant take that risk.\ btw anyone change there shocks when they changed there springs.i couldnt find any companies but im going tein anyway just curious.
real reason i want coilovers is for show and make it a bit easier if i run into problems with the wheels/drop.
