Rusty Rotors
the rotors always get rusty looking after they get wet.
Is it just the hub of the rotor that's rusting? It's pretty normal, not much to do other then paint it or live with it.

Surface rust is immediate and inevitable on the stock rotors when there is any moisture around. Just make sure to get some nice rotors next time around if you don't want to paint these.
Cleaned my rotors and calipers and painted them this weekend. I have pics at home, ill upload em later, was not difficult at all.
Ive never seen aftermarket rotors that didnt rust in at least the area where the pad contacts. Nice ones have the rest of the hub and outer ring painted black or silver usually, but you can pick up caliper paint and do it yourself for 10$.

PBlue, got any pictures? Maybe a small DIY?
I've been wanting to do this but find a different method to go about it everytime. I'm also hesitant about painting because my arts & craft skills = NEGATIVE.

"It's brake dust" and "paint your rotors" geesch!!!
It's normal to get "flash" rust on your rotors every time they get wet (car washing or left in the rain). It burns off as soon as the surface dries and you apply your brakes. Although this small amount of rust could be construed as dust when the brakes are applied, the term brake dust typically refers to brake pad and rotor wear from braking action.
The hub is also iron and also surface rusts. You can clean and paint the hub or leave as is without concern. You should absolutely NOT paint your rotors.

I have pictures. I will post em on monday when I get home.
As far as the DIY, buy brake cleaner, a toothbrush, and caliper paint.
Take off the wheels calipers and rotors. Spray cleaner and brush like hell, repeat until clean. Mask off w. tape. Paint. Wait. Reassemble. Admire.

Had the same problem too with rust on the rotor, but upgraded to drill and slotted rotors, and they are nice and painted gold, so no rusting for me!
But good luck with getting them back to un-rusted.

i was talking to my friend bout this subject not to long ago. he thinks its ok to paint the rotors... i say its ok to paint only the hub but the rotor itself shouldnt be painted because it would decrease the braking performance because the paint would probably make it jus a bit more slick (equals to more slide)
who is right? and is there anything else i dont kno bout this?

On my factory rotors, painted the hub portion only silver, then when i upgraded to drilled/slotted i ordered them with the hubs powder coated black... problem solved
here is a pic of my front rotors...

Very nice.
Powder Coated wheel hub - check
Painted brake caliper - check
Unpainted, but optimally slotted and cross drilled, Rotors - check

Rotor Hubs painted, Calipers painted.
Wheels very dirty in first pic, normally the glossyness of the calipers and wheels are identical.

Washed and left wet, the rotor pad surface will slightly oxidize, but back to silver as soon as you hit the brakes, the purpose was to keep the rest of it looking good. And for a total cost of a couple bucks.
