ok well that's the solution. It Rust because it does. Its Normal. And a non issue. When you wash you car they will rust up very fast.. then you can drive that off. the centers will continue to rust unless you paint them.. It took me all of 2 hours to do mine. .. You can pay a shop to do this for you. It is a way to customize your ride. !

I left mine on the car. Cleaned them and then used a brush to paint them on ..

very easy to do.. I painted the centers black with a brush as well.

There is no perfect car. Not at $30K and not at $300K. DIY's are discussed here every day. Some of them are actually critical for protecting and preserving the value of our RX-8's. I'm not going to tell you what they are though, since you obviously don't care to learn.

You came to an enthusiast's forum looking for advice.

You got advice that was virtually unanimous.

You rejected the advice and thereby insulted all those who gave their time to educate and help you.

You closed by asking - inanely - who would have a reason to do this simple DIY: your initial post makes it obvious that you have a reason to do it.

I think you bought the wrong car and I know you're on the wrong forum. Trade your RX-8 in for something with hubcaps. Join the AARP. You won't see that nasty rust on your rotors and you won't have to bother us with questions you don't want to hear the answers to.

 

I just had my dealer tell me that Mazda has approved replacing my rear rotors becase of the rust. He said in the future they will be reconditioning them, but for now I get new ones.

 

I don't see new rotors as helping you.

Every single one of the 50+ RX-8's on my dealers lot had rust on the rotors. Even the one sitting inside the show room.

If you so much as spray water on the rotor, you can literally see rust appear before your eyes.

Now, if the new rotors are different than the stock ones, that's another matter..

Wow! "SpinninAgain" is perfect for you b/c you sure put a lengthy spin on my short little post! Remember, posts are just typed words and the full emotion behind them can be misinterpreted at times. They may seem harsher than what is truly being expressed. I think your opinion is your opinion. I love my 8 and I do not wish to get something different w/ hubcaps, as you stated. I understand there is no perfect car and I understand how this forum works. However, there are times when frustration overcomes everyone at one point or another (read your post again). This enthusiast forum is great and extremely educational for others and me. I know I didn't reject advice nor did I insult anyone with my frustration. If so, look out for life.

Thanks for taking the time to explain what I was thinking, what the motivations were behind my post and the fact that I will never paint anything. I will continue to "learn" from this forum whether you want me here or not...it's that simple. No hard feelings fellow 8 owner.

RKM you can always deleate a POST that you start.. if it gets out of hand..

 

Just my 2 cents, but the early RX7's had the same rust problems--along with a high-pitched squeal every time you used the brakes until the rust was worn off. The rust came on if you especially if you let the car sit a few days without driving it after heavy rain.
Maybe if we drive after every heavy rain it'll keep the rotors conditioned!
