Road Racing

Hey guys Im working on a project with my 8 and looking forward to some track days. Now.. I have 19" rims so racing tires are very hard to find. I decided to get street tires instead but have no clue of wich to use. Any suggestions.
just in case, the set of rims can be use only for the track if necesary.

Why not just get 18" or better yet 17" rims for the track?

Are you really going road racing or just having some fun on track days? If you are going road racing, consult your rule book. If it is just for track days, use the stock wheels. Track days are about improving the driver. Lap times aren't keep. You aren't competing against anyone but your self. All you need is equipment that won't brake under use. The OEM wheels will work fine for that.

I track my 19" wheels on kumho ecsta mx tires. The tires are sticky and relatively inexpensive.

to be honest I have no intentions of competing. I just want to have fun, but since I have those rims i figured i can use them.

I suggest going joyridevs6's way. I have done 4 track days with my stock 18's and Dunlops, work just fine. As you improve in skill you may want to upgrade to better tires, like I will soon. Even though my skills are still limited.

Use your stock wheels...you paid for them already, so if you went off and damage the wheels, you won't feel so bad Really though, if you're just doing track day for fun, race tire are too expensive for that. Kumho MX and Falken RT-615 are relatively cheap for 225's. Better spend the money on better pads.

Ok so Im ready to start road racing.. It took me a While but I had to finish my main project before starting... So I have plenty of power now but Im planning to be around 400 to 450 for the road racing track days.. Any suggestions on tires good for that HP range..... I have Toyo r888 for the drag strip and Im thinking of getting a set of them on 18 for road racing... What you think?

Toyo R888's will be very good.

Also look into Nitto NT-01 DOT R compound tires as a cheaper alternative if price is a factor.
