You will need to provide some additional information if you want helpfull answers.

What is your main focus with the car. Performance and function or looks?
What size tire do you want to run?
Where are you located? Sometimes people are selling used wheels that might fit your style and buget or you can go check out other peoples setups.

Some things to consider are, weight: For perfromance and function you will want to keep the weight around 20 LBS, no more then 24 lbs.

Size of tire you want to run: With little or no modifcations you can run a 275/35/18 if you have use an 18X9.5 +45MM offset. But the bigger wheel and tire combo the more money. Stay around stock size or a 18X8.5 +35-45MM wheel with 245/40/18 tires and you can save yourself some money.

For my money I like enkei racing wheels. Yes you can find cheeper and flashier wheels but for performance, style and value I thing enkei racing wheels are the best.

Oh for custom look on a buget, find a used set of wheels that are high quality but are just in the best shape (straight but damaged paint). Then find a local wheel repair shop to do a custom paint job for you.

You should be able to get a set of Tenzo R rims for that price. They don't have too many good offset choices though. Check out Axis wheels too.

If $1,200 is just for the wheels and you have extra for tires then your in good shape, but if that is your budget for both together then your limited. Anyway here are a few good looking wheels, search the site and you can find 8's with them installed.

Have you considered the enkei GTC-01? It comes in hyper black, which might be a good color choice for your car. Titanium grey right? They come in an 18X8.5 with a +35 or +30MM offset. If you run a 245/40 tire with the 30MM offset it has a very agressive look but no fender roll needed even when lowered. You can see the pics of my car at the track. Now the GTC01 is a little out of your price range ($1500-$1600 for a set) but you might be able to find nice used set in your price range

Get some PRF1s they are dual purpose. Light and look good. Or if you dont care look for some Rota knock offs.

Yeah black with polished lip will look real good. It's hard to see in this pick, but this is my buddies TI grey with the same color setup.

Sorry for chiming in so late. I'm not online as much

IMPORTANT QUESTIONS BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO ANSWER ANYTHING:

Need to know:

Preferences in wheel size and width.
Preferences in style, please choose: 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, split spoke or mesh face etc.
Preferences in finish: SBC, chrome (yuck), polished, black, matte black etc.
Preferences in look: tucked, flush, hella flush or oem
Preferences in brand - i.e. 5zigen, enkei, volk

MOST IMPORTANT

WHAT IS YOUR FINAL BUDGET?

I understand you stated $1200 but you didn't specifiy if that 1200 is supposed to cover both the wheels and the tires or just the wheels. If that's for both wheels and tires I can tell you right now you should stop looking at the name brands. If it's just for the wheels then you might slip away with some smaller, less flush name brands.
