Red / Brown brake dust

At ~ 50k my rotors started to look a little rough and the pads were about gone. I installed Racing Brakes OE replacement rotors and Hawk HPS pads. The brake dust was greatly minimized on the fronts but the backs were always coated with red dust within 100 miles. The new rotors and pads gripped as good or better than OE but the red dust just on the rear chrome rims bacame unbearable. I called Tire Rack and they recommeded replacing just the rears with Performance Ceramics. That done the red dust is gone and braking is unchanged, If fact front and rear dust is about the same now in quantity and color. So now I'm wondering if one set of the original replacement pads were mismarked.

My question to all of you running HPS is do they dust red or black and do you experience this strange rear dust increase?

BTW I have a practacally new set of nicely bedded rear pads free to a good home (if you're more dust tolerant than I).

Thanks TeamRX8, this was just plain strange. I think I'll try contacting someone at Hawk to see if they know what was going on.
