I just got my wheels fresh from the powder coater. I think they look great, but I'll have to wait a few weeks to see what they look like mounted. Its still too cold for my summer tires. I know many others have done this, but I'm stoked so I felt like starting a thread. Cost was $350 and they are coated a wet black that was custom made for Orange County Choppers (I live just South of OCC).

looks really good man.. if i could take my car out of commision for long enough to do it, and knew someone here who could/would for that kind of money.. i'd do it in a heart beat. i think i would rather have a less shiny more flat black for my galaxy ghey though. Looks great!!

Aero8 03-21-2007 06:31 AM

looks great! can't wait to see them on the car!

N rider89 03-21-2007 06:41 AM

high five powdercoating buddy. there seem to be more and more people doing this now. when i did mine all i found was a few odd threads. now i think my pics have help to spread this

snipaz2420 03-21-2007 08:57 AM

what company did you have do them?

Redpit10 03-21-2007 09:36 AM

Thank you for all the positive comments so far. I guess I should mention I have a black beauty 8. So far I blacked out the wheels, the badges, and the smoke out tail light kit is in the mail.

I had them done at K&S Powder Coating. Its in Poughkeepsie NY. I can try to find the phone number if you like. Let me know.

llzjayarzll 03-21-2007 10:09 AM

those wheels look real nice.

Joel Ramsey 03-21-2007 01:38 PM

Looks like you got an excellent deal. Good job!

dmc27 03-21-2007 02:26 PM

Massive tease. What, we have to imagine them on the 8 now??!!!

They look pretty sweet on your floor, tho. :lol2:

llzjayarzll 03-21-2007 04:36 PM

hey btw did you ship it to them or drop it off?

Redpit10 03-21-2007 05:38 PM

Yeah, sorry it is a bit of a tease, but trust me the rims are tormenting me also. Everytime I walk by them I think, "damn I cant wait to see how they look on".

I dropped them off, the shop is like ten minutes away from me. If you are really considering getting it done, and cant find a shop by you, I remember in another thread that somebody got their rims powder coated in Toms River NJ for $275 for all 4 wheels. If I had to ship out I would probably use them (offset the shipping charges). If you are really interested I can probably find the link for you.

Krasnog 03-21-2007 05:53 PM

Ugh - I want this done but cant find anyone local to do it for a reasonable price.

Did they strip them down for you too? The cheapest I found so far is 80 a wheel, if I bring it stripped.

Redpit10 03-21-2007 05:59 PM

Yeah they sand blasted them for me and took off the tire and TPMS all included in the $350 price.

That was me. SDI Powder Coating. 732-473-0800. Not sure what the prices are now. My rims were also new so the prep was minimal.

MissyK 03-21-2007 06:01 PM

wow they dont look like stock rims anymore!!

dillsrotary 03-21-2007 06:05 PM

I'd like to see a black 8 with either bronze or gold powdercoat. Couple guys on the evo forums painted their stock's bronze and it looks great on a black evo.

shinka213 03-21-2007 06:20 PM

bronze even looks sweeter with black cherry :D:

Redpit10 03-21-2007 07:10 PM

Yeah I thought real hard about getting a nice bronze, but overall I felt like with all the other blackout mods im doing that the wet black would look terriffic once all is said and done. Somebody on this forum has a black eight with bronze painted rims and it does look nice. To each his own.

matt22 03-21-2007 07:11 PM

I am still waiting to find a black on black. or more pics with black cars at least.
black car and bronze rims wonder what that looks like.

Hey expo, yup it was you. By the way thank you for posting pics. They really helped solidify my choice.

sweet. I'm thinking of powdercoating my aftermarket 18" 5Zigen Super6's either black or bronze as an alternative to getting new rims.....still haven't decided, but if I can get all 4 done for $300ish, I'll do it.

Updated pic on my rims. The red outline has always been my plan, and today I finally got a chance to see what it looks like. I just did it fast and I will have to re-apply carefully once my tires are installed, but I think it will look great. They only thing I might do is buy the expensive black centercaps. I know their dusty and have fingerprints all over them. I forgot to wipe them off before the pics.

foo77 03-23-2007 07:13 AM

pretty! :icon_tup: IMO,it'll be nice if those flying M logo in black :)
