Painted my OEMs Bronze!

Painted my OEMs bronze last weekend since I don't have the cash for the 19inch Rotas I want, and I wanted to be happy with my OEMs. 1500 grain sand paper, 2 cans of bronze wheel paint duplicolor and here's the result! I love how it turned out. I decided to keep the center caps silver, I may paint them black. haven't decided. But here's some pics!

No clearcoat? It will chip real fast. I can see the silver on the lip edge. Only downfall in painting wheels with tires on them.

Definitely if you paint them yourself. The paint shop I use has a machine where they push the tires away from the wheel and then they paint the wheel.

+1 on applying clear.

BTW Did you paint inside the barrel? If so next time you swap tires or get the wheels balanced there is going to be a mark left from the wheel weights.

I think you should paint the center cap bronze to match.

Real nice! Looks clean. Be interesting to know how long the paint looks that nice and doesn't chip. Paint the centers. I want some bronze rims on my 8. Might have to give this a shot myself.

I've painted my fair share of wheels. Even with the clear, you'll get chips too. Only way of getting a REALLY strong finish would be the powdercoat option - which would cost a lot more.

They look great. If they chip, just do it again.

The biggest issues with powder coating is if you chip or scratch the wheel then you have to powder coat the entire wheel again.

A quality paint job can be durable. Not sure about a rattle can paint job though.

^^^

I agree. But it's harder to chip the finish on a powdercoat job - that's what I was referring to. They can still chip eventually....oh...and they will (from personal experience).

Looks very nice. Much better than I thought it would. I would get rid of those damn wheel locks. I had one crack and it ended up being a nightmare to get off. Ended up having to replace the wheel because it got so dinged up in the process. Replacing a rear stud is also a PITA.

Don't clear IMO
I ran my wheels with and without clear for a long time. No difference in protection, didn't chip either way.
Looks 10x better WITHOUT clear.

Did you primer under? if so, what color primer?

Blacks gonna look sweet I just had my rims done I recommend not doing a clear on them (look at my rim album to get a look at the rim before mounted) the rim looked WAY WAY better w/o it. I did a test to see which I liked. but like someone said the edges where the tire meets the rim may get chipped during the tire mount so go somewhere you know won't mess it up

Oh yeah here a few pic the night I got them mounted.......
