Ohlins coilover installed

I just install my ohlins coilover(eibach spring) on my 8. It's really amazing. the bumpy ride and noise on the factory shock was soothed but the control of the car was enhanced. My coner speed incrases at least 10km/hr. Now I have a more comfort ride but sharper handling. The only pitfall of it is cost. Nearly 300,000jpy for a complete kit. You may see pictures here:http://www.rmagic.net/index2.html

what model of ohlins shocks were used? are they double-adjustable? inverted? are there a range of spring rates available? inquiring minds want to know. =) thanks!

RMagic's web site http://www.rmagic.net/index2.html has to be one of the suckiest sites I've seen. Forget the language (but why not have an English version too since it is Bable Fish proof), but it is virtually un-unnavigable, with information in small popup windows, not to mention the stupid frames w/the glaring background. Poster child for how not to program a site.

Still, I'd like more info on your coilovers?. I just can't come up w/it on their web.

*nods* i wish i'd studied japanese in HS and college because it seems like the availability of the full rx8 aftermarket is pitifully slow in developing in the US. ugh.

Ohlins are real racing shocks and their support is weak in the US, I would recommend caution:

http://www.carrozzeriajapan.co.jp/oh...eup/mazda.html

you'd be beter off using Penske, Motec, Koni 28 or 30 series etc.

and here's the R Magic page, I Babel stuff there all the time :dunno:

Nice looking but a bit dear at $2400 - plus import duties & shipping!

TeamRX8 03-10-2006 08:38 PM

that's pretty cheap for a racing shock with springs, but they're only single adjustable

i don't know about their US support overall, but the stasis engineering motor sport coilovers for the audi b5 s4 is arguably the best suspension you can buy off the shelf.

i get error 157 when i run both URLs you listed through babelfish. :dunno: i'll try again later.

at this point i'm strongly leaning towards dynamic suspensions' double-adjustables. i think it's the only coilover with double-adjustable shocks that i know of besides the kw v.3.

double adjustable is not yet available. According to ohlins official website, it will be out in Jun,2006
My shocks should be PCV type
http://www.carrozzeriajapan.co.jp/oh...eup/index.html,sorry another Japanese link
look for SE3P for spec
the standard setting is:
8kgf/200mm/65 in diameter ---front, 5gk/f rear, all shock was not inverted (you can order inverted shock for front suspesion).
There're 20 ranges for adjustment. I stay with front-8 rear-6 for months. I lower my car down 20mm in front and 15mm in rear.

you can get any double adjustable made that you want WRT racing shocks though getting a complete package with springs and all is a different story, and also you said "arguably" and I would argue that when it comes to racing shocks the're all pretty damn good but there are four excellent support centers for Koni in the US, including KONI NA itself, TrueChoice, ProParts, and GroundControl. They're not just a race team offering a certain application on the side.

I presently have Koni NA building me a set of custom 2812 coilovers, pillowball mounts are OE parts converted by SpeedSource, spring rate will either be 8/6 or 9/7 but I have to figure out the lengths on my own - still waiting for the final dimensions to come back (shocks are shorter than OE to account for lowering) before I can start on those, the front shocks are normal orientation with both rebound/compression adjusters on top of the pillowball mount in the engine bay and the rear shocks in an inverted orientation with both adjusters located at the bottom shock mount for easy access from underneath the bumper, should be a pretty trick true racing coilover setup when done but you're probably talking $5k to duplicate it as a kit.

On a side note, bet you didn't know that almost every train car in the US is on Koni shocks :Eyecrazy:

WRT babelfish it must be a configuration issue on your computer:

Spin9k 03-11-2006 06:22 AM

Think it must be a bable Fish issue... I got the "157 error" many, many times, even pasting in the words only on Bable Fishes page got the same error...after about 10 tries I finally got that translation...for what THAT'S worth...I think they need a name change lol :Freak_ani... to "Bable Garbage" ...cause it reads (?) like some kind of esoteric poetry!

TeamRX8 03-11-2006 06:32 AM

works fine for me and plenty of other people so it's not likely an issue with their site ...
