I have finally done it! What I had feared since picking up my 8, brand new and pristine, was I hit a small curb today at such an angle that all I could hear was SCRAPING from one half of the rim to the other. I got out to inspect and it was brutal. Never before have I been so careless! When you buy a car you always anticipate the small stone chips on the hood, the minor door dings on the side only to be seen if you’re lucky from a certain angle and light conditions. As well the minor scuffing on rims. This is all due over time

Can anyone give me suggestions as to what I should do with the one bitched rim now? I don’t want to necessarily dish out big bucks in replacements if it can be avoided!

Sorry to hear! I fear the day that it happens to me. Luckily I know a guy that will restore curbed wheels for 69 dollars a wheel. He does quality work. He also does all the wheels that the local porsche dealership sends him.

 

damn im sorry that sucks. one time i hit a curb and had to repowdercoat one of my wheels. i was so pissed

yea......get some aftermarket wheels. keep it in mind, dont curb your aftermarket wheels!!

Just this weekend i got my first stamp of Honolulu Curbs on my rims, and its REALLY BAD!!!

This is a DIY repair if you have the time and inclination. There's a good photo series DIY story that's posted here in several places, as well as other fourums (Autopia, for one). That series is with a Audi wheel.

Who knows the paint code for our OEM wheels??

 

Don't know the OEM paint code, but the DupliColor TY 01602 (Lunar Mist Metallic 1C8 Toyota) is a good fit. See here.

 

its repairable so dont stress, but i wouldnt repair it because curb rashes have to happen eventually, unless u cant bear with it, then get it repaired :D

That is hardly "brutal". Consider yourself lucky, looks like you got off easy. Still sucks though....

 

its easy to avoid curbing. i always am about 1-2 feet away from the sidewalk when i park. but its always in neighborhoods. get it fixed and then learn from it.

They charge about $125 to remanufacture your rim or swap your (repairable) rim for a reman.

You can also do business with them via the net, shipping the rims at modest cost.

 

Thx for all the options guys, im going to try to find a good rim repair shop in Ontario Canada first. If its true that it only costs a couple hundred bucks, I will probably get two rims refinished. Trust me, the picture does no justice, in person it's much worse!

Question: Don't rim repair shops have all the correct paint codes?

 

Try this DIY. I curbed my rim last week and I followed the steps. It turned out well but there was some light rain in the middle of the night and it ruined the paint. It will take a lot of time and patience but also save you $.
