OEM Tires

the stock tires on my 8 are almost shot. i never peeled out much once or twice at the most it kind of pisses me off i will be going for knew pirelli pzero Neros its just well im spoiled and before my parents will buy me knew tires they would like to know that oems do wear out kind of fast i got like 20,000 miles on it. so if some of you can put down how many miles before you changed your tires it would put my mothers worries about my driving to ease and help a fellow rx8 owner to get knew tires. please no flames about me being spoiled. i cant help it if my mother wants to buy me things :)

subduedracer 05-10-2005 01:59 PM

:D Only 20,000 miles? I got like 45000 our of mine!

misterwilson007 05-10-2005 02:00 PM

25,000 out of my oems

HeelnToe 05-10-2005 02:01 PM

My 8 has 13,000 miles on it. It's in for state inspection right now, and I'm praying the tires will pass.

To be fair, I shoulda rotated them sooner though. One pair is pretty good, the other is pretty bad. By 20,000 miles, I'd expect to see belts poking through.

People's tire mileage varies...

Black-dragon 05-10-2005 02:14 PM

my tires lasted 13000 miles (rears only, front still good) then i got a flat in both the rears backing out of my driveway. DAMN neighbor across the alley was working on his deck.NAILS. Had it towed to mazda they looked at it and said the extened tire warranty was no good because of lack of tread so i had to pay everything. wait till you hear this. after tax and towing charge $737.25. For 2 freaking tires. what the F&%K!!!! I just get a mental picture of them sitting around staring at my tire laughing how their labor charge keeps going up.

reddragonmd 05-10-2005 02:21 PM

worst stock tires ever.

From my point of view, i paid almost 30K for a car, only to have to drop money for a full set of tires less than a year later. And thats with NO burn outs, or extreme handling, just daily driving. I know stuff wears out, but the stock tires were not even all seasons. I think dealers should be smart enough to put on different, equivalently priced tires before initial sale, based on the region you are in. If your in southern FL or TX, fine summer only high perf. tires work. But in Baltimore, we get hot summers, and sometimes brutal winters.

That may sound like whining, but im genuinly urked by the amount of stupid little things that have come up on this car, that didnt even come up on my 93 VOLKSWAGON corrado, and i know im not the only one.

I'm at 16,000 and mine are fine.

As for your new tires, to make sure you get the best mileage and wear, check your pressure regularly and rotate every ~5000 mi.

Oh yeah, almost forgot - jewish-rx8's mom - I saw your son doing donuts in the mall parking lot the other day.
For real. :D

Yeah. When you purchase a new car, go to a dealer that carries that brand of tire, and you can purchase a road hazard warranty for them and lifetime rotations and balancing.

Gee, wish I had known that when I bought the car. Then I coulda got a free tire from my nail puncture, since MNAO frowns upon repairing a performance OEM tire. Ah, well...

Razz1 05-10-2005 11:54 PM

18,500 about half gone. But i really killed them at my first track event.

ChopsMcgraw 05-11-2005 12:24 AM

I'm at the wear bars on one pair, at 1 or 2 32nds more on the other pair. 9800 miles. Of course, they've had a hard life.......

Chops

XeRo 05-11-2005 07:12 AM

mine lasted 29000 mi...I also had the RE040's..

you need to specify if you had the Dunlops or the Bridgestones...that makes a difference,..well sort of..

renaldo 05-11-2005 02:42 PM

29k on mine, there being replaced in a few days.

sable 05-11-2005 02:58 PM

Bridgestone OEM - 20,572 - maybe 7-10k left. ROTATE every 7500 helps a lot.

TheColonel 05-11-2005 03:57 PM

I just got a call from Wayne Mazda where my 8 is in for service. Apparently After a mere 10,325 miles my rears I shot and they're telling me I'm doing burn outs. I'm not... The last time I left my car there I got it back w/ over 50 miles more on it... I can't wait to see the mileage this time... I suspect foul play...

renaldo 05-12-2005 10:24 AM

Just a suggestion to all. Rotate the tires every other oil change and you can easily get 25k out of them. I wasn't nice to my tires and i got 29k.

EDIT: I have the 18" bridgestones re040's i think

expo1 05-12-2005 10:46 AM

I'm another RE040 owner with 25,000 miles with about another 1-2K more to go. That's with about 4 hours off track time also.

Watch the air pressure @ rotate every 5,000

I thought that about mine also since at my 20,000mile rotation they had half the tread left. That last half peeled off pretty fast. I got 23,000 out of the OEM Bridgestones and they were rotated every 5,000 miles.

dankgummy 05-12-2005 01:02 PM

OEM Potenzas -- just made 25k miles. tires are shot, getting my 19s put on tomorrow!!! :D

the-jewish-rx8 05-12-2005 09:40 PM

thanks for the help my mom thought that comment about my peeling out in a parking lot was funny the oem tires suck with how long they last now could people give me info on how many miles they have gotten out of pirelli pzero nero

the-jewish-rx8 05-12-2005 09:46 PM

its a shame that the oems wear so quickly i liked the tire i was able to go 75 on a very tight on ramp withought lossing traction. the most my friend can do is 60 and he has a sti the other has a bmw 330xi

RenKat 05-13-2005 04:43 PM

31K with two track days and I drive it hard.
Rotate every oil change keep pressures right

If you think these wear bad just look at the reports on Tirerack the s-03 go away in half the time.
