nitto neo gen

I just put these puppies on, so I thought I'd give my first impressions since no one seems to be running them here.
the price is good, obviously.

the balancing was difficult. i had them sent on wheels from tirediscount, so they should have been balanced, but on the road force, they varied from 14 lbs to 35 lbs. So I would say the manufacturing of these tires could be better.

there is very little road noise. much better than the stock potenzas.

they are very grippy especially around the turns which is good. the sidewalls feel sturdy too.

they look cool.

they're supposed to be made to wear even on cars with camber adjustments. i'm -3 degrees, so I hope that works because my stockers were pretty slanted by 14k miles. the rears went all the way to the threads on the inside with still tread on the outside.

haven't had any rain, so we'll have to see about that.

I actually was trying to buy falkens, but the ones i wanted were out of stock. the guy recommended the nittos, and they were cheap, so I thought I've gve em a chance.

They are Z speed rated (w) which is 168 sustained speed. I don't think i'll need that.

anywho, please let me know what you guys think about them.

difficult to brake loose going to second, impossible going to third. stockers were always chirping 3rd and screaming second.

So far, after ~15K miles on my Neo Gens, the wear has been super. Looks like it'll go for at least 35K from the looks of the remaining tread. Compared to my last two sets of tires (both Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3), these Neos are wearing evenly all around.

The Neos are harder to break loose in the corners (in the dry) compared to the GS-D3s, but I felt the GS-D3s handled and gripped better in the wet, but not by much. The Neos seem to feel about the same as far as side-wall stiffness.

Overall, I really like the Neo Gens, and you can't argue too much about the price

P.S., I didn't have any problems with balancing ... smooth as glass above 100 MPH ... ahem, or so I've been told.

well, now that i have them balanced, they are crazy smooth. i accelerated to 50 and coasted at least a mile over light hills and through some curves. complete silence.

to be honest with you, diane, i'm surprised.

I had neo gen's on a previous lancer that I used as a beater. The tires were great but mine showed premature wear and were replaced after the front two were majorly flat spotted when I had to brake for a deer. The tires only had around 5k miles on them when I replaced them.

I now roll on Falken azeni's and absolutely love them.

I had a set of Neo Gen's 245/40 and was not impressed... took them off after 5K miles. I felt less grip and they didn't feel very responsive, imo.
