New Tire Choice Available Soon - Michelin Pilot Super Sport
Michelin has what looks to be a very interesting tire coming out in RX-8 sizes in early May - the Pilot Super Sport.
What's exciting about this tire is that it appears to outperform most if not all the existing Max Performance tires - like Goodyear F1 Assymetrics - while maintaining a 300 treadwear rating and excellent wet weather handling.
It's still too early to tell, but early reports are quite favorable. Apparently, Michelin flew journalists and forum members from certain forums to Dubai (!) for some back-to-back testing against competing tires.
Here are some interesting reads:

Beyond perforance, alot was said about the handling characteristics - such as turn-in response, stability under braking, and recovering from a too-fast corner entry - that make the tire seem pretty amazing indeed. Not to mention superior wear under track use.
They are expensive, but if they hold up well it will be worth the extra cash.
I would love to hear that they perform on par with something like an RE11 or AD08 on an autocross course, but I suspect that won't quite pan out.
But if they are faster than my Goodyears and last longer to boot, I'd say that Michelin will have succeeded in upping the game for "Max Performance" street tires.

The Porsche guys I run with use them. One recently put his in the trees. Seems there is little or no audible warning when they break. On some of their tapes I know they are sliding because I have it on my tape, and you cannot hear a thing. Not a bad tire, but you got to pay attention, they apparently do not squeal at all.
Still a good tire, but, be careful on the slip warning front.

@George, they are OK.
The Porsche guys love them, or at least use them, but they do not have a lot of options. Boxster S is 235/35 and 265/35. That is a big freaking tire, and you are supposed to get "Porsche" N rated tires, or something like that. The tire seems great, it is just quiet.
At Ross, yep, I am definitely learning, so the noise is great feedback. I can now tell front and back noise, scrubbing vs. slip angle, push vs loose with my ears.
