New Suspension Monday

I am in school to be a mechanic. Right now I am taking a steering and suspension class. So, I bought springs, shocks, and a new set of tires to be put in on my Eight Monday. I will post some pics when we are done.

I am not racing and I did not want to replace them anytime soon. According to the research I did they are a good all around tire.

Where did you do your research, the Toyota Corolla forum?

Why upgrade your suspension to then ruin the whole car with economy all season tires?

These tires were oem on my old 2003 Accord V6 and I ripped them off the car and went with something better because they sucked on that car, let alone a sports car like the RX8. I remember anytime I gave the car more than 1/2 throttle from a stop they would start to spin and the traction control would go off like crazy.

There are quite a few very affordable 300+ tread wear summer tires that will get you very good mileage and allow you to appreciate the car more, especially with an upgraded suspension.

I got the front suspension and the tires mounted last night. I still need to do the rear and now I have a TPS sensor flagged that needed to be sorted out. An alignment is needed as well. This will be knocked out tonight.

Question

I had a problem with the installation need some help. I bought Eibach Pro-Kit Spring with a 1” drop in the front and .8” in the back. Here is the before pics.

After I installed the suspension the back looks lower than the front. I double and triple checked before I I put the springs in that they were for right Shocks tower. However, I measured from the center of the wheel to the fender and the front is 14.5” and the back is 13.25”.

Did you make sure not to preload the upper control arm bushings?

Thanks! I hope that fixes the front gap. If not I will just put the stock springs back in the rear.

I did some research and it looks like I put the springs in wrong. The front springs are in the back and the backs are in the front. I really wish they would include something in the box that would tell you which are which.

some companies will stamp the spring rates on the springs .... that might help figure out what goes where. On our car the higher spring rate is usually the front

They should! Sometimes they all look the same...

Anyway, glad you got it sorted out.

So the good news is I did not put the springs in wrong. It was the preload issue. The car is sitting correctly now and drives awesome. The tires are great and the new suspension allows me to corner like a cat on carpet. I will post some pics once I get her cleaned up.

I was thinking about selling the car but it drives so well now I am going to hold off for a long while before I revisit that proposition.

Happy to hear you have it sorted out now. Now just imagine how it would corner/handle with some sticky summer tires.....
