need new tire advice

I'm looking to get a new set of tires for the winter that will fit on the stock rims. Here's the main issue I have...I don't want a set of dedicated winter tires because 95% of the time, I'll just be driving on cold pavement, not snow covered roads. I'd like something that I can just leave on the car all the time (more of an all season tire) that will be ok in the cold and ocasionally a little snow. I know the stock Bridgestones are no good, even if the pavement is only very cold. When I bought the car in Feb. of '04, I bought a set of Sumitomo HTR+ (supposedly all season) that I had put on right away. I guess these weren't too bad, but I left them on all of last year until I had the original Bridgestones put back on of April of this year. When I had the swap done, they told me the Sumitomos were shot afer only 15,000 miles. Any recommendations for some sort of all season that will last a long time? High performance is really not necessary for me. I'm more concerned with tread life.
