My TIRERACK experience...

I had made my initial purchase via the Tirerack advertisement banner on this board and noticed their website was tweaked to reflect "RX-8 Club owners" edition on the front page. So, I make my purchase and have 2 choices; wait 1 day and get tires via Neveda and save some money or get them through another warehouse showing the tires as available but at an additional cost. I can wait a day so I go for the cost effective choice. Well, the original day slipped and showed another 2 days wait, I waited another 2 days and that date slipped again... a third date change showed this coming Friday as a ship date. Well, I started seeing a "slippery slope" and decided to call Tirerack. I talked to a lady and she basically told me "to just wait until Friday and see what happens" this is after recounting my story about waiting past two expected ship dates already. She wasn't guaranteeing that the Nevada warehouse would have anything in stock by Friday nor was she offering any assistance/discount about getting tires from another location, basically she told me if I wanted them from another location I would have to pay full price. Well, if I knew their online system was going to dick me around for a almost a week, I probably would have done that from the start!!

So, anyway I got off the phone a bit peeved and disappointed from the experience and wondering whether I should cancel my order and take my business elsewhere. Not more than an hour later I get a call from a Connor at Tirerack, he states my order is held-up and he doesn't think the tires will come into that warehouse in a timely fashion. I briefly mention that I just got off the phone with somebody at tirerack and she didn't seem on the ball as to the status of my order. He recommended I order them through one of their other warehouses, I ask about the shipping difference, he offers to split the difference. So, now it seems I'll have my new tires installed by Friday instead being left in a lurch and not having a clue.

Anyway, I just noticed a guy named Connor from Tirerack sponsors the "Wheels, Tires, Brakes & Suspension" forum and coupled with the tweaked banner add, he must have an idea when someone orders through the 'rx-8 club owners" specialized site. I scratch it up as coincidence that he called me, I don't think it registered when I mentioned that I had just gotten off the phone with another tirerack rep.

So Connor managed to turn what seemed to be a shitty experience into one that was fairly positive. The willingness to help/attitude/knowledge of the representative makes all the difference in a satisfactory customer/client relationship. I would deal with Connor direct if you want to be treated well and make sure your order is being taken care of. It seems this vendor is "keeping an eye out" for members on this board.

Connor.... if you would have covered the entire difference of the cost of shipping I would have given you an excellent endorsement....

I second that. I ordered through Connor and everything went smoothly, even when I decided to cancel the TPMS' a week before the shipdate.

I have had some disapointing past experiences with "the rack." That being said, I have had nothing but good experiences with "the rack" if I call Connor. Call him and you won't be disapointed with service. :D

Yep, I had a huge fuckup cuz they didn't think my tires would fit so they weren't gonna ship, and they rattled on and on about TPMS and whatnot, so Connor got on the horn with me and sorted it all out. He's the man.

And in case he reads this, yes, +45 offset 18x9.5 with 285/35/18s fit with a few mm of clearance!

Thanks for kind words they are much appreciated.

Brothervoodoo - Just to clarify, I reveiw all orders that are placed through the RX8 links or that have my name in the reference box. I do this to ensure that people are not order something that is incorrect or not safe for their vehicles. Even if 90% of you guys know exact what you need and are sure it will fit without mods there is still the 10% that may need a little guidance. So if there are questionable fitments or delivery issues and you ordered through the link, you'll be hearing from me shortly after the order is submitted.

As always give me a call if i can be of assistance or you would like to place an order. Have a great day.

Connor, this thread is 3 years old.

Anyhow, how about TireRack offering a wheel search by Diameter, Width, Lug Pattern and Offset (like your Discount******** competition)???

For example, say I want a 17"x9" wheel for the RX8 (a popular size for road course setups on our car).
TireRack's 6 speed default shows only 18 and 19" wheels.
Choose 4 speed auto and the 17" wheel options don't run wide enough.

I ended up purchasing wheels from one of your competitors (not the one mentioned above) who offers wheel search by size. FYI, your sales people weren't much help over the phone either, claiming that the 17" wheel wouldn't clear calipers- a default response which is not true in this case.

I still purchase tires and brakes from you guys (on a regular basis). Cheers.

Regrettably that part is not up to me. We (being the sales and tech department) have asked the powers that be many times in the 9 years that i have been here to gives us the information to set up a track and tuner section for guy that are looking for competition set ups or that are not afraid to pull a fender or roll a fender lip. Sadly we are told no and it normally comes back to liability issues. It seems that in todays day and age everybody is sueing for anything and everything. Due to this the company is simply trying to protect itself. We see people order product all the time that is extremely aggressive. We call and warn them and when they find out that we were correct in our hesitations they still want to hold us responsible because we released the product and it damaged their car. This is also the reason that our system is set up to only look up parts by application and not specification.

Now that being said i will still try and assist you anyway i can and as long as the product you are trying to purchase does not pose a safety or load capacity issue's i can still release the order and will post warnings on the invoice you receive. But, i still have to contact you and verify you are aware of the issues before the order is released. This is also why i cannot emphasize enough to place your orders through the RX8 forum links so that i see the orders when they come in. It will help your order process faster and ensure that everything is correct.
