Modifying stock 18" rims

Hi guys,

I hope your having a nice long weekend.

I have a 2006 GT manual rx8.

I want to have that "chrome" look on my rims, but can't afford to buy new rims.

Have any of you guys tried to add that chrome look onto your stock rims?

:Wconfused just save up and get new ones.

chrome the stock rims... it may cost just as much as buying new ones....

Can you afford this?? LINK

RX8_sunny 01-15-2007 06:28 PM

LOL,

For some reason, I thought it would cost much cheaper.

I don't think I can afford to this this right now.

I think I'll just stick to the fender stakes, and the shiny rotors below the front and rear bumpers.

Well you can powder coat them for under $300 PHOTO

eastsurf84 01-15-2007 06:52 PM

Oooh I like the black powder coated rims, what do you think on a sunlight silver?

Easy_E1 01-15-2007 06:56 PM

^ I think we have a winner. Just maybe leave the lip silver.

LionZoo 01-15-2007 07:05 PM

No silver lips. I extremely dislike the new trend towards black wheels with polished lips. In fact I dislike polished lips as well as chrome wheels in general (unless it's black chrome). Just my taste.

There is a DIY thread, on how to polish your own wheels....

Some people think the lustre of a polished wheel to be a little more subdued than the bling-bling of chrome.

This wheel is as good as it gets -

check around in your area for someplace that does a stock chrome wheel exchange.......theres a place out here in so. cal that does it. they give you chromed stock wheels and you give them your old ones plus about 100 bucks per wheel

to do it right is a TON of work, guess I'm getting old because I'd rather pay the piper than go to all that trouble, but if you having nothing other than time and energy then be my guest ...

Rub some elbow grease and polish those bad boys up! Don't forget the clear coat!
