So I called as soon as they opened this morning and was given an e-mail address to their tech. guy to take a look at the pics...he sent me this:

"No there is nothing wrong with the item. We design our lowering springs that way so we could get the best lowering and best ride quality. Coil binding only happens on coilover systems.

I may be mistaken, but aren't we all riding on coilover systems? Did he possibly mean 'adjustable' coilover systems or am I being given the first excuse in a line of many before I get my money back?

Just a side note...I really appreciate the quick responses and the experience that everyone shares on this forum and it's the reason I'm startin' to do the same. Thanks again to all those who pay-it-forward...

well thats good news, i had a feeling thats what they were going to say cause looking at shaun's pictured of his springs all his coils were touching except one and on ours its only the upper three, also i don't have noises while i drive and the ride quality is pretty good, i think i'm gonna try loosening the upper control arm and retightening it, cuz when i put it on, i think i had it angled down too far which caused my front end to stay up once it came off the lift, if the car drops anymore i'll let you know so u can try the same, could be the reason your not happy with the front drop

I agree with ya 23, I haven't had any weird noises or any problems so far, just a little camber in the rears. I even took a tight turn this morning to see if I could make it rub or slam and...nothin'. My tires felt like they were gonna slip if I pushed any harder.

I'm fairly sure my fronts are all the way down and snug, I guess I just expected more.

Well, we DO have 30 days so I may be pushin' these on an autocross practice run this Sunday. I'll see what people there have to say about it too...

Bro, if you need instruction on how the springs orientation should be, you should even be installing these yourself.

Thanks for the advice, bro, but let's try to keep it constructive. You making that remark is the equivalent of me saying, "That Dark, he's the kinda guy that lets you know he's a real badass at suspension installation." It isn't necessary, so I wouldn't.

A few others and I were sharing experience with these springs and/or coil-binding so if you have some, that'd be great...I thought that's what this site was for?

That's a pretty useless response from Megan which makes me concerned about how much your tech support guy knows. His answer didn't really explain why they are designed like that. Both my Swifts and the Racing Beat springs aren't like that.

The definition of coil binding is when the coils on a coil spring compress and slide across each other causing a jerk and clunky noise in hard braking or cornering. They may not be that bad but it's certainly not the proper way a spring should sit. Yes mine were much worse but I'd be concerned about anyone that "designs" their system to have the coils touching each other like that.


Let us know how they perform at the autox this weekend. That should be a solid test of whether or not you'll have problems with them. Also keep an eye on them to see if you see paint rubbing off between the coils. That means they are touching during hard cornering, which will be an indication that they are too soft or too short.

any update on these? im checking them out and I was wondering if they have held up and if any problems noticed so far

Yeah, sorry guys...I forgot to report in about practice but unfortunately it had to be cancelled at the end of last week when my new tires didn't show up. I ordered them from www.tire-easy.com on 4/29 and when I did a tracking checkup a week later (Thursday), they hadn't even been sent out yet so I cancelled...

About the springs tho, I've had them in there a couple weeks and still no issues. I had the car up a few days ago to bleed brakes so I checked for any unusual marks or chipped paint. Happy to say that all looked good and still pleased with the feel of 'em. I'd give 'em a shot and $140 ain't bad either...

any new update on these been awhile and are there any bad news yet or is everyones systems holding up good. im about to purchase these next week and wanna make sure nothing gonna magically rip off on the highway or something.

i haven't had any problems with mine at all, they feel pretty good, and no noises at all

how much were the swift springs? how big was the drop? ...i was gonna buy the megan springs but after reading this thread i might start looking into something else

The drop on the swifts is about 1.2" I bought them used but I think they are around $250.

i have a question i just installed the megan springs well half way how do you know what springs go on the front and whats springs go on the rear because i did the fronts and noticed no drop but after i decompressed the spring on the rear struts the spring was loos on the strut with the bolt tight i donno if i have them revesed there was no lable on the springs wheni got them and i know springs should not be loose on the struts like i can move the sring up and down. any boday have any info

I just installed thoose springs on my car last week and I put the short ones in the front and the long ones in the rear. I did not notice much drop in the rear it first but the drop in the front was unreal. After I drove it for a few days the back came down pretty good but the front was so low I thought I put them on backwards b/c there was no label so I went to swap the front with the back and I could not get then tight that way sounds like you are putting them on backwards. If you need me to I can send pics of mine. Just pm me if you need anything elese

Yes you can put stiffer springs on there, this will VOID your warranty as these are designed as STREET coilovers and not for Track.

They are $95 a coil and which ever # you want.

madmechanic i believe has them on the right way, when i did it i had the same thing, the front looked like it had no drop at all and the back you could actually move the spring till the car had weight on it, what i found out for the front was that i tightened the upper control arm in the front at a downward angle and that was causing the front to stay high, i just turned the wheels and loosened the 2 bolts on the upper control arm and it dropped, as for where the springs go, if i remember correctly i didnt go by height, i went by spring thickness with the thicker springs going in the front, hopefully that helps you guys

I would say having a designed fitment where the rear spring unseats at full droop would be considered a problem.

they don't unseat at full drop, they are able to me moved unloaded, which really isn't a problem, just unexpected when you first put them on, i've had them over 2 months and have had no issues with them at all, for the price i would recommend them, but its your money not mine

If you can move the springs then they're unseated. They're not going to be an issue unless you fully unload the wheel, which pretty much never happens. However, I like being prepared for that 0.01% chance.
