Megan Racing Springs

I was looking around the forums and couldnt find much information about these springs. I know that the megan racing coils are really good and such but ive never heard anything about the springs. It drops 1.75 front and 1.5 back but are theses actually good? Anyone have these on the forums? Also are they stiff etc? thanks!

They actually just released it today, they are going to send me the spring rates Monday.

Oh really ic ic i was looking around ebay and this is the closest compared to the sprint springs. I wonder because sprint springs drop only 1 inch in the back if you have grand touring. Wonder if these will drop less on the rear if you have the grand touring package. let me know fluid!

imput1234 04-18-2009 11:26 AM

sprints drop 2".

Yup and a 2inch drop in the rear is excessive, 1.5 is pushing it.

dhan 04-18-2009 04:18 PM

Yes but on grand tourings it only drops 1 inch. So any more info on the megan racing springs. haha

why would GTs only drop 1? they share the same struts

dhan 04-18-2009 06:30 PM

i do not know its weird. i heard from people who uses them that it drops only 1 in the rear?

I'm going to call BS
Looking at the pictures of Spring springs shows a much bigger drop than 1. My car is advertised to drop 1.2 in the back and sprints look much lower

dhan 04-19-2009 01:57 AM

Oh yeah well i dont know haha i just asked around and i remembered someone claiming how it dropped one wit the gt. haha.

legendracer 04-20-2009 01:10 AM

i noticed the megan racing springs dropped alot more than the other brands. 1.75 drop in the front is amazing...but not practical in day to day driving

and megan racing springs are cheaper then other brand too

dhan 04-20-2009 02:49 AM

^ yes it is a lot cheaper haha. Im determining if i should get these or the sprint springs. 025 off haha is it worth it? i dont know haha.

Installation went pretty smooth, here's a before and after shot still need to do some more driving on them

Race Roots 05-02-2009 06:10 PM

Nice Drop, not bad.

We have these springs in stock as well and ready to go!

do you have any pictures of these with the stockers, what size wheel are you running on the after pic? were the springs pre-loaded?

rx8driver23 05-02-2009 06:29 PM

they're 18 on there, i did the rims and springs at the same time, the tires are actually the exact same ones that were on the stock rims, as far as preloading them, not sure what you mean

I didn't realize these were just out and I installed mine on the 1st...I woulda had them on 2 days sooner but the f(*&^ing rain kept me indoors (no garage :( ) They feel great compared to stock...less roll in the turns and acceleration/shifting feels tighter (to me). Install was ok, had to use a compressor from Autozone (borrowed with deposit of 50 bucks). But I am having a concern. I'm no pro with this stuff so I was wondering if 'rx8driver23' was having the same issue...on your front setup, are your top three rungs of the spring all slammed together? Is this normal? Anyone? Here are some pics...

Also, I was disappointed in the front drop...expected more.

yeah both the front and rear top 3 springs are touching, just curious i didn't see any major difference between the height of the springs a put the thicker ones in the front, wondering if you did the same, also when i first got done with them i was really upset with the drop in the front, i was actually all set to take it back apart and swap the springs until i drop home, i heard 2 clunks, being a mechanic i thought "great i left something loose", but when i got home, my front end was sitting like it is in the picture, so i figured that everything was in the right place, and the fronts just had to settle, here's a pic of what the front looked like as soon as i took the car off my lift, u can actually see the springs touching also

That shouldn't happen. That's called coil binding and it's bad. Typically happens either if the initial spring rate is too soft for the car or the springs have failed and plastically deformed. This happened to me with my Espelir springs. (Check link below).

If that is what is happening with brand new Megan Racing springs I would not get them. This is a design flaw.

Coil binding will cause the car to behave unpredictably at the limit and reduces your suspension travel which will cause the shock body to hit the bump stops too easily causing your entire suspension to effectively become a solid piece. When that happens the car can spin or slide in a corner or if it's just over a bump it will jar the car making it very uncomfortable to drive.

You can check out my spring thread linked below to see my experience with this same problem and what I learned along the way.

imput1234 05-03-2009 05:18 PM

Its megan

dhan 05-03-2009 10:10 PM

hrmm wonder if it was good of the deal. Also if i want to get it installed from a shop do i just tell them to "preload" it and they should know what it means correct?

jesterb6ub9 05-03-2009 10:24 PM

Good lookin' out Shaun...gonna give Megan a call tomorrow...again. Called them during the install because, bein' a noob, I expected SOME instruction or at least some orientation of the spring for install...got nada, just a warranty form. When I asked them which were front and back, they just told me to match them to the OEM...well, he didn't say what to match. I went with spring height (and was wrong) but found out that the fronts won't fit the back because the bottom coil won't fit into the shock plate. It was fun to do and good experience so if they're messed up, it'll be fun to do it again, only quicker this time...

Anyone else have any good suggestions for just a set of springs (if I end up sending these back) that will give me a good 1.5" drop without any coil binding? Thanks guys...

shaunv74 05-03-2009 10:59 PM

I am very happy with the Swifts.

Yeah I freaked out on getting the springs right a couple times. The rears will not fit on the front so once you realize that they only go on one way you should be good.

Also I noticed there is usually a big reduction in the length of the front springs relative to OEM but the rears are usually close to the same.
