Megan

Hey guys i did some searching on the megan coilover kits and was wondering what your opinion on these were. When i searched the forums it seems that whenever this question was asked the thread always got sidetracked onto some other topic. So is it a quality kit, if anyone has them installed would you suggest them and do you like them or wish you would have got something different.. thanks for the help fellas

I have Megans on my MR2. They are on the cheaper end of the scale, and you get what you pay for.
I would rather have had the tein basics, but they do not make them for my year MR2. The Teins are not as adjustable, but they are a far superior product and a smoother ride.

I will say that the Megans are great for what we bought them for; Super stiff, just a little bouncy, but great bang for the buck. They are 32 way adjustable shocks/struts, adjustable preload on the spring, a camber plate for the front wheels, And adjustable ride height. No complaints, but on my RX8 I would rather have something a little more comfortable.

Your best bet is the Koni shocks with whatever springs you want on them. Probably about the same price overall, but everyone here swears by that set up.

Don't do it. Cheaper isn't better. You always get what you pay for. IF you can't afford a good coilover then get shock and spring. You'll be happier in the long run, so will your kidneys.

Go with Tein Flex as your LOW END OPTION. This is where coilover life begins with me.

i've tried both tein basic and megan coilovers on the rx8, the megan is way way way better then the basics. no joke. the basics are for the people who wants to have height adjustment and dont track their car at all.
im using megan right now, im not saying they are very very good, but it is really good considering it is so cheap.
i think it is good enough for street use, i would want a stiffer setup for track tho.
i've been waiting for stance to come out for the rx8.

OK so anyone who's used these cheap coilovers, have you tested or compared to

Tein Flex
Zeal Function Xs?

If people you're asking advice from haven't done relative comparisons on other quality brands then the data is meaningless.

Also you can't compare different vehicles to each other. MR2 macpherson, RX8 double wish. They will be very different.

I've had one brand work good on one car but not another.

I have compared tons on the MR2. I love the tein flex, they seem to be aggressive, but still rides nice. The other I played with are Ksport, cheaper than teins, but almost as good. And I have driven almost every other coilover out there in other peoples cars, so I am not completely sure of the set-up.

But you are right, my comparisons are on a Toyota. I just wanted to chime in to say the Megans are good for the money, they do everything well, but they do nothing great.

i had hks on my g35, teins flex on my wrx and megans on the rx8 by far bang for the buck megan racing i like not to harsh or bouncy for a 12k 10k set up tracking is good
drifting is fun with them. other then that get what you want it your money
dont let any one persuade you what ever you decide.

me personaly the way i go threw car every 2 years or so i dont see my spending over 1k for coilover that have to be rebuilt every year

I've heard good things about the Tanabe Sustec Pro FIVE. One of my friends has those on his and he enjoys them.

these guys are local to me,
my friends have bought their items before (coils for GTI MKIV)
i personally thought the price is too good to be true, and like many others already stated "you get what you paid for"
i would never buy these for my 8
just my input

I would never buy anything from megan racing. I have a car that came with megan "track" coilovers and they're complete crap. None of the adjustments work as they should. I'm just going to have to throw them away and buy a better set. Their poor quality is not limited to coilovers either; the car also came with megan harnesses that don't stay tight and a megan steering hub that comes off but doesn't go back on. I have a friend who got a leaky coolant reservoir and a O2 housing that was welded so poorly it was pretty much unuseable. Here's a quote I like:

"The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweet taste of low price is forgotten."
