I switched out my struts when I installed the full MS suspension. The springs are very stiff, and the MS strut that is matched for them is softer than the stock strut. Check the "springs, springs, springs" thread to see how your Tanabe NFS spring matches to the OEM/stock spring rate. If they are close, then you would be fine with keeping the stock/OEM strut.
I switched out the stock struts for the mazdaspeed while I had my H&Rs on because the ride was too bouncy. It cleared that problem right up. I now have them on with the Espelir springs and the ride feels great.

"Rear rebound runs about 75% stiffer.
Rear compression is actually softer by 15% or so once 3 in/sec is hit but the same as stock before that speed.
Front rebound and compression is about 25% stiffer."

Those springs are a lot shorter than OE, but not much stiffer. IMO you need shorter shocks (than OE) to keep off the bumpstops, at least 1/2 the ride height drop shorter body. The Koni shocks meet this requirement, not sure about MS
