so no one has answered will this bulletin work with an 05. i have had my car just barely 2 months and the rotors are now a nice copper/gold color. i live in so cal so they barely see water. it doesn't seem like the issue has been fixed with the 05's.

snap on will this bulletin work with 05 rx-8s?

I recently took my 04 into the shop for an oil change. my car has less than 9k on it. anyways. i asked them if they can take a look at the rotors. I asked if they could paint them, but he said that the paint would probably wear off. so he put in a note on the work order. It also turns out that i had a small recall that needed to be done so i had to pickup the car later. upon calling to see when i can pick it up, the service manager told me that they'll hold the car until tomorrow because they ordered new rotors and would replace them. I immediately asked them if it was for free and he said yep. So i don't know if anyone else had this done. maybe i was just lucky. hopefully they give me rustless rotors :D

Anyone in the Midwest get there dealer to take care of this gratis?

My 8 is currently in for recall work, and I mentioned the hub rust. They say they will grind it and coat it with some sort of silver colored sealant...but it'll cost me $90. I told them that other dealers were doing something similar, but for free...because the rust is "excessive." Service lady said they could not because we're in the Midwest and the road conditions are so harsh that this is expected.

that service lady is totally bullshitting you but Mazda did pull this free service

forget paying them $90 that is for sure...just do the best and right thing...

Buy a caliper/rotor painting kit (G2 kit is best)...doing it yourself will turn out 100 times better anyhow...and you can choose the colors for the Calipers and/or rotors

what about removing the current rust first? not sure i have the skills/equipment for that

EDIT: nevermind...I just got off the phone with the service rep and they've already got 2 of them grinded. too late for me i guess. I just hope this sealant that they are putting on holds up.

I just had mine re-painted yesterday by the dealership. They look great and I didn't pay a penny.
According to the receipt the dealer just charged it back to Mazda as warranty work done.

Mine were repainted (warranty) several months ago and still look good.

They just painted the rotors. Hey Jason, Because I recently went to Linux I can't seem to get my scan function on my printer to work yet.
What I will do is take a picture of the invoice and try to post it here or email it to you. give me a little time to post it.

truemagellen 09-22-2005 02:39 PM

thanks tigger :)

thanks I'll see if it works :D

tiggerlee 09-22-2005 03:47 PM

If it helps, as soon as I mention my rusty rotors the service manager stated that Mazda is covering it under warranty.

Tiggerlee just got his done and it's an '05.

Looks like I'll be making a trip to the dealership soon to have mine done. :)

IZoomZoomI 11-22-2005 03:06 PM

got mine done no problems whatsoever. They even told me if it rusts again they will replace the whole rotor :).

I LOVE BURLINGAME MAZDA!

nedor 01-05-2006 03:39 PM

Dealer sanded and repainted the rotors. I was told to bring it back if the rust stain shows again.

haha mazda won't paint mine. haha

Asmoran 01-09-2006 03:14 PM

I just did mine myself. Took a small wire brush to the rust and got the worst of it off, then sprayed a high-temp (1200 deg) Duplicolor paint on. The edges are looking a little ratty now (5 months later) but other than that it's holding up fine.

Also, electrical tape works really well for masking the contact area - it conforms to the curve real easily.

Whats up Trigger...long time no see.

What dealership did you go to? Why won't they paint them?

Rotary Rasp 01-09-2006 04:19 PM

I just sprayed the entire rotor. The break pads do a prefect job of removing excess paint.

truemagellen 01-09-2006 04:50 PM

please say you are kidding RR :mdrmed:

My dealership is the same way. They said it USED to be a TSB, but Mazda has removed it, and it's no longer covered under waranty.

csaltkill 01-09-2006 06:22 PM

I can't get mine done anywhere in Utah. I have contacted D, Dahle about it and Bountiful Mazda. They all have told me no. Whatever, I will be painting rotors and calipers in Spring.

Vader8 01-09-2006 06:51 PM

Can't get mine done either, so I put a comment about it on the back of my survey thing I got in the mail from mazda. Probably won't help but worth a shot.

Papapump51 01-09-2006 07:21 PM

Got mine painted today , Ferman Mazda in Tampa sanded and painted them for me, under warranty, also said if it comes back bring it back to us.
