Does anyone know if I just install a set of lowering springs instead of putting in coilovers, does it decrease the handling characteristics or wouldn't make a difference? Coilovers are a bit pricey for me at this point.

Please help, thanks in advance.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Just replacing springs will hurt the shocks in long run. The coilover is the whole set of springs + shocks and is adjustable.

 

Initially, it should help.

I'll bet, just like on most cars, that if you go higher spring rate, the stock dampners (shocks) won't hold up for very long.

When they start to go, you'll be bouncing down the freeway. When that happens, obviously your performance will decrease.

I always recommend springs with a matched set of shocks... however, I think the only option right now is the MS shocks. I'm sure other options will come out in the future though.

YMMV, and the stock shocks could last for a long time..... that just an unknown right now as the car is so new

yes, that's what the box said, but in my personal experiences, just but changing the springs will damage the original shocks in long term. It will probably last around 2-3 yrs.

 

The reason stock shocks and struts wear out quicker is due to the restricted stroke of the shock shaft. With lowering springs the shock is compressed more than stock, and stays like that. It xtra stress on the bushings. All in all, I've had springs on other cars and the shocks will be fine depending upon how hard you drive the car.
