lower control arm bushing removal
 

Does anyone know how to remove this bushing its more like a sleeve I have a pic right below

im not sure on an rx8, but on an audi/vw that is not a serviceable part. the whole control arm must be replaced if the ball joint is damaged.

Well to me its not really damaged it just won't come off. When I took the whole bracket off that the wheel goes on to it just stayed on instead of coming off with the bracket

as far as I remember, it's not a serviceable part, if anything happen to it, it has to be replaced.

I don't think I'm being understood here. What I need to do is get it off. It's just stuck because even I buy a new control arm I'm still going to need to get that peice. Because it done not go Im there that price mounts on this I al post a pic with me pointing. Help

Use a gear puller and heat with a gas torch, be careful not to destroy the rubber boot. When it is removed, if it just slips in and out of the hub bracket, you may have to have it knurled .

those sleeves are integral to the rear aluminum wheel hub/upright assembly, they do not need to be knurled as they are a tight but not secured/interference fit, they protect the aluminum hub mounting point from wear contact of the arm joint end, just slide it back in and then be sure to torque the end properly once you bolt it back up

this tool or something similar will work, even though it's intended for tie rod ends I have used it with great success on all of the RX-8 arm and ball joint separation points

Thats good, but isnt this the front lower control arm ? And, if it doesn't fit "tightly", tell me how to secure it properly.

One last question of the lower control arm bolt is kind of stripped and the bolt will not go on is there anyway of getting it fixed or replaced out for a new one with replacing the whole control arm.?

Which "bolt" do you refer to, the 2 on the chassis securing the control arm, or do you mean the ball joint ? If its the ball joint, you need another control arm. I have to ask again, This is your FRONT lower control arm ?

You can likely use a die to chase the threads....if they are not that screwed up

Otherwise the ball joint is not replaceable and you will need to replace the control arm

You can get a use lower control arm from a scrap yard or Mazmart for like 100-125$.

I got one which was almost like new for 100$ CND around here.

The attached pdf is for a 04 rx-8 and it shows that the metal bushings are servicable in the rear hub. These bushings are no longer available from Mazda.
I pulled one of the bushing out when the link was removed.
I guess I need a new rear hub like the factory workshop manual states.
Any one know why these bushings are no longer avaiable?
Must of been some problems with pressing in new ones I assume.

simply re-use the bushing, there is nothing wrong with it

P.S. I know this is an old thread, and not quite on topic, but it took me quite a bit of head scratching and several failed attempts to remove the rear suspension links from the hub before I found that tool and had them off in about two minutes!

You can use that one too, but the other one works a little better if it will fit in where you need it (I have both)
