I think most of the tires mentioned so far in this thread would fit the bill, then.

I was in a similar situation as you when I bought the Goodyears - I wanted a decent (but not top-tier) tire, but the discussions on this forum were too vague to be meaningful. So, I read the reviews on Tirerack, as well as the tests. The tests were a good baseline to figure out which tires performed the best relative to their peers, and the reviews helped me understand some of the more subjective aspects, like side-wall stiffness & turn-in. This is how I arrived at the Goodyears - great performance in their class and a responsive sidewall. I've no regrets.

Anyway, I tell yo this as the methodology worked for me. There's lots of data on the TR site if you take the time to browse it.

 

# 1 I'm not testing tires, I'm reviewing tires, and pointing out that those two companies testing tires showed exact opposite data for two popular kinds as to make tire buying difficult for anyone.

# 2 I'm making a observation to help those testers save face, that maybe they should do at least the dry skidpad at several different pressures to find the real G limit.

 

I'm trying to help YOU save face, and bring a little more objectivity to this forum at the same time.

And, when you state that one tire outperforms another tire (which you did), you are discussing the outcome of a test, not stating an opinion in a review.

 

^^ our opinions are no better or worse than what tire rack has, so just go there find a tire read some reviews and TEST results and pick a tire.

but the reviews are not on rx8's.. its more around BMW, mini cooper, volvo.. everything but the rx8. lol

 

yeah, but now ur just being difficult. A tires a tire. when it comes to noise and wet weather, they will be similar, if it sucks on one car odds are i'll suck on another. rx8's handle very well, so if it handles well on another car chances are i'll handle very well on yours too.. like i said i have potenza re760 very quiet, good in the wet and $148 a tire..( 245/40/18.) and this is an opinion coming from someone who owns them and has them on their rx8.

 

Nope, still a review and my opinion, just like all the other reviews on here where guys give a 7 , 8, or 9 to a tire.

I give the SPT's a 7 and the V12's a 9, just like several others have on here.

I know Tirerack has ads here, but you sound like you work there.

You even said that my comparison was not valid test which it wasn't so give it a rest!

 

I just got the Hankook Ventus V4 ES's , not totaly summer tires but from what i've read, and driven (like 50+ miles) they handle great and wasn't scared to do 75 in a nice downpoor ether. oh and they are super quite (for now will see once i put some miles on them)

over all im happy with them, got them for $694 M/B.

 

i've run 245/40r18 on stock rims.
ventrus v12, continental dw, nitto invo are some of the good, cheap choices

 

i went and ordered the 235/40/18 RS3's from hankooks.

they come in this wednesday
