makes it easier but you don't have to have it.

How are you going to do it without a spring compressor? You need to be VERY careful with compressed automotive springs. There is a LOT of energy stored in there, and if you let go of one its a very deadly weapon.

You can buy them on Ebay for not a lot of money, but there are a couple different kinds, and I'm not sure if they'll all fit on all setups. You can also rent them at some auto parts stores I think.

Autozone will loan spring compressors out to you for a deposit. IMO it's not worth buying and taking up space. How often do you install springs yourself anyways? I borrowed a set from Autozone, and that was pretty painless.

its not as simple as just borrowing a spring compress from autozone. using those spring compressors is a huge hassle........well for me at least it took a while to do it back when i had my civic. working w/ the civics suspension was a hell of alot easier than the 8's mind you.

spring compressor is a jumbo hassle. I did it at my friends shop and we used the compressor for the first one, but then did the ghettofied "standing" on the spring/shock technique. Almost put a hole in my car but it was worth it. Just make sure you have a good backstop.

Ive rented them twice from autozone when helping friends, they took a 50 dollor deposit and when you brought them back you got you 50 back....all the tools at autozone, at least at the time, were free to rent.

True any spring compressors are a hassle, but id rather spend the extra time and effort, and get it done safely. Also if you have a air rachet or something it makes it faster.
