Installing only 2 new tires?

This question isn't specific to an RX8. I have a Suzuki Grand Vitara, a RWD mini-SUV. It has 30,000 miles on it.

The two rear tires have been replaced in the recent past (within last 6000 miles). The two front tires need to be replaced. What is the best way to replace the tires?

* Put new tires in the front.

* Rotate rear tires to front. Put new tires in rear.

I seem to remember reading about putting new tires in the back of a FWD car. Is that true of RWD cars also?
