Help With Tire Air Pressure On Bigger Wheels
It's been a while but I figured I'd ask around here. I couldn't find the answer on search but I found some great hints. I ended up getting concerned about it so, figured I'd ask people more qualified
Basically I have a staggered setup on my CR Kai's. Falken 452's - 265/35/18 and 245/40/18's. I know that different size tires require different air pressures to maintain the correct load. My tires are rated at 97Y.
Is there any recommendation as to what pressure to keep THESE sized tires at. I know the stock size tire pressure is 32psi. Mine were super low and I refilled them to 32 but I'm not sure if that is correct. Let me know! Thanks.

All other things being equal, you want to increase air pressure as the surface area decreases. This is because pressure's effects on surfaces are directly related to the amount of surface to be acted upon. This would imply that you should lower the air pressure for tires with more surface area (greater cross-section width or sidewall height).
However, all things are not equal between different tire models or between tires of the same model but different size. Different tread patterns and compounds, different reinforcement in the sidewall, different methods of measuring just what 245mm actually IS... All this means that you should judge the pressures for yourself. The rated 32psi is based on ride quality, tread wear and safety with the OE wheel/tire combo. You should really do your own tests to verify that you are using the right amount of pressure.
