Did a very bad thing a few days ago. I was exiting a parking garage and squeezed by a car to get to the exit. I was at an angle and I heard a scraping sound as I went past. Stopped, look at the right front and no damage. Later the same day I washed the car and when I did the right front rim I found the source of that sound. About one third of the rim on the outer edge was scarred from scraping the curb. Damn! Is there a way to get this repaired? Any input will be appreciated.

I cheap way, if it just surface scratches, is to get Sunlight Silver touch up paint.

Many body shops will not work on alloy wheels and probably not worth the cost anyway.

Unfortunately the metal is raised - much more than a scratch.

check ebay or some of these guys selling rims. I saw an ebay sale for 4 stock 18's rims for $200 apiece..

I did the same thing. I don't think I can grind it down and get it to look right. when snow goes away, I will try epoxy filler and silver touch up paint. Paint alone would help a lot, but the scratches are deep enough to still be visible.

Has anyone else successfully made such a repair?

There are companies that specialize in repairing curbed aluminum wheels. There's a company in Tampa FL called Balue Prospects. Met the owner who was ogling my 8 at a gas station. This might be a franchise, give him a call 813-267-2792.

Otherwise check with the dealer, body shops and detailers. You weren't going fast so you probably have a good shot at repairing it.

Check out motorcycle mags at your local book store. It the back they have adverts listing aluminum wheel damage repair as bad bent wheel straightening, so curbing is minimal repair for these guys.
