Help decide on tires
 

Need new tires Asap. These will go on stock 18's. All sizes are 245/40/18.
Suggestions/experience?

Goodyear Eagle F1 AS
Hankook Ventus V12 K110
Nitto Invo
Pirelli P-Zero Nero
Yokohama AVID W4

do you plan to autox or track?

Not really, but i do like taking turns fast and be confident i wont be sliding all over the road.

Does it ever snow where you are at?


How many miles at very least do you want out of your tires?

It snows maybe couple of times during the winter, so summer tires are fine. I'm concerned with wet traction as well.
I don't plan on keeping the car for too long, maybe until the end of the year. So at least until then.

Get which ever tire is less expensive.

Use tire rack to check wet performance.

Also, buy the tires from them.

Nitto's

nitto invos are what im getting after my toyo t1r completely dies (which will be soon)... heard a lot of good things about the invos! cant wait to pick those up

They are not direction, correct? Just have to be mounted facing outward.

if your not planning on keeping the car to awefully long I would say get a performance summer tire but try to find one of the cheapest

Invo are great in the wet and very quiet, but the dry traction is just ok.

I think its SPT but I'm not sure, which is kinda sad because its what I'm running

If your not gonna keep the car long I'd get Kumho Ecsta MX's. They are $145 from Tire Rack and have a AA wet traction rating. I put these tires on my STI and I was impressed with them for the price. Good traction in the dry and if you did happen to autox once or twice they will do a good job.

While were on the subject of deciding on new tires... I could use some advice too... I need to get new tires asap... and will in the next 2 weeks or so. I was thinking of the Pirelli P Zero Nero. Then Toyo Proxes 4 was suggested to me. I'm absolutely not a tire pro so I need advice from you guys...
I can get the pirellis for 185 a piece plus installation and the toyos are buy 3 get one free and are 198 a piece plus installation... thoughts?????

Just bought a set of Sumitoma HRZ IIIs... haven't fully tested them yet but they had excellent dry and wet test results at tirerack.com and many forums across the net swear by them.

Oh yea, they are VERY inexpensive.

Invo's by a hair only because of it's rep (heard some good things)
Eagles would be second

I put on 245/40/18 Goodyear Eage F1 GT's at 18,000 miles. I'm at 35,000 now and am told they need replacing, since they're at 3/12, 4/12 inch depth? Mazda dealership said they'd put on Kumo's (didn't specify the size or model of tire), but the price was pretty high (not sure if we can talk price so won't say it)

anyway, wanted to not spend too much money, and get more than 17,000 miles this time around. I live in florida, so no snow. The Goodyear Eagle F1's were great, especially in rain, although I did slide out twice, but in both cases the pavement was not smooth and i was being a jackass :)

i'm not sure if we're allowed to talk price on here, so won't say anything on that, but i see tires like: Sumitomo HTR Z II (245/40) and Goodyear Eagle RS-A (225/45), Kumho Ecsta SPT (225/45), and Kumho Ecsta ASX (225/45) as cheapest currently. I don't mind going down to 225/45 if I get better brand tire. Which of these is best? Will i notice a big drop in performance from 245/40 Goodyear Eagle to 225/45 to the point that I shouldn't do it?

EDIT: I just looked up the Nitto Invo's (which weren't on Tirerack for some reason), and they should be in my price range (245/40 about same price as 225/45), but how many miles will they last??? that's one of my big concerns with this purchase. just don't want another 17000 mile tire. i knew the GOodyear Eagle's were only 20,000 miles, but was still a little suprised they came up 3,000 miles short. still, not overly disappointed, as its not that far off.

I just got a set of Falken Azenis RT-615 for my miata. Those tires are SICK. And they're pretty cheap. Order them on ebay from DTD, get the Live cashback, and get them put on at walmart(cheapest mounting price BY FAR). I don't think you can get such a great tire any cheaper.

They are great when they are new. They fall off as they age. They are good for about 20,000 street miles. At about 15,000 you will start having problems with hydroplaning.

I've changed my mind (and not on your list). For my GT preference I'm going with Michelin Pilot Sport 2. Although pricey, they rank highest in all the categories I appreciate.

Can't go wrong with the Pilots but my Michelin Raptor knocks offs lasted 40k with a few autox's in there so I wouldn't throw the money away again on new Pilots Sports. a lot of the re-brands are the same tire made at the same plant.

i would say invos hands down ....just got them installed in my 8 and they are the best tires so far

I need new tires too, 5th set so far :( Probably go with RT615 again
