Help! Cooper Zeon A/S any good?

Hey guys,

I got my 04 Green 6sp sports pack last week and I love it so far.

Here's my problem. I live in the St. Louis area and I will be driving it to Nebraska tomorrow, on the bridgestones!

My only option immediately available is to purchase a set of four Cooper Zeon tires in size 245/40/18.

Does anyone know anything about these tires? They are about 210 each mounted etc.

On one hand I would really like some all seasons before hitting Omaha, on the other hand I don't want crappy all seasons. These are supposed to be high performance...

If I skip the Coopers I will drive to Nebraska on the potenzas and hope i don't crash. Then purchase all seasons or possibly dunlop graspics mounted on 17's next week. Unfortunately Pzero Nero's are unavailable anywhere so everything is a compromise.

Any and all feedback would be appreciated ASAP. I must decide within the next couple hours. Thanks a ton guys! I would not have this car without info gleaned onthis forum!

Not sure but I know a guy that owns a couple of Cooper stores and he says they are great tires and I trust him because he has fitted me before on my truck, not too mention I get the whole set, mounted, etc. Friday for $520.00. Too bad you couldn't wait for a full report but I am going to go for it and I am facing the same winter you are in Missouri.

Well, I guess I can wait for a report now.

We will be taking my girl friend's 94 civic to Omaha.
Please let me know what you think about those tires.

Also, you are only paying 520? I was quoted 210 each including mounting etc.

Is that quote a rip off, or are you just getting a good deal due to your friend?

No, your quote is probably right. I get them pretty much at cost. Drove on my stocks today in a couple of inches of snow. Really not bad at all if you take it slow but I am still going to switch them out.

I bought a used car from a dealer once that had new Cooper tires on it. I made them take them off and put real tires on it before I'd take delivery. In other words, I wouldn't drive a car equipped with Coopers. They hold the wheels off the ground, and that's about it. There's nothing performance oriented about them at all - in a comparison with other performance tires, the Coopers will finish dead last every time (unless you include other crappy, bottom of the barrell "performance" tires in the comparison).

PS - going wider for tires intended for winter conditions is a real bad idea. All-seasons are not a great idea if you do intend to see winter conditions regularly, either. For winter conditions, get winter tires.

PPS - driving the stock summer tires into possible winter conditions and hoping for the best would have been a real bad idea! If there was the slightest chance of seeing snow, you would have been better off renting a car for the trip.

Regards,
Gordon

I have had Cooper tires before on my vehicles and they were very good. I also drove my car in the snow today with the stock tires and had zero problems. I am still changing them but they gave me no trouble other then taking it slow like I do anyways in those conditions. We got 5 inches today, got to work and back with zero hint of trouble.
