Talking Is this a Good Price for Volk Rims?

Hi Guys,

I got a quote for $1840 OTD for a set of Volk Rims (no tires).
Volk GT-C or Volk GT-7
18x8.5 Front (+45) and 18x9.5 Rear (+42 or +45)

Is this a good price?

I appreciate some suggestions, thanks!

Why are rims like wearing Nikes or Air Jordans? Is it that important to own rims that just scream out status, "Look at me I'm expensive!"?

No offense to you, Koala, but I see nothing special in either of the rims pictured that would push me to say "I gotta have them rims!!" I've seen just as nice and nicer for half the price of the ones you selected above. It's nice to personalize your car, it makes it unique, I am not flaming you on this but making a generalized statement to all.

Maybe he does have the money that he can scream.. "Hey look at me I got money." I mean.. what if a guy only drives a nice Honda Accord, and looks at our cars and thinks.."Look at that guy that wasted 8k+ more on that dinky 1.3 liter super Rotary engine car... could have bought an Accord."

Besides, 1840 isn't all that much...good price though.

Where did you get that quote from, and (I'm wishing I know) can the 9.5's fit in front?

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the heads up on the price.
D MENAC 7, I understand where you're coming from, but Rims is just a thing of mine, like the example of some kid who's gotta have a pair of $200 Nike.

PUR NRG - 9.5's will not fit in the front; the max width should be no more than 9.0, with offset of +48 (no less).

Outlaws Extreme - Let me check with my dealer to see if I'm suppose to give out the quote. Send me a private message and I'll let you know by tomorrow. Maybe he'll let us have additional discounts if we both buy a set at the same time.

That is a very good price. I would jump on them if I were you.

You buy Volks because they are a good quality wheel (constrution and aesthetic wise), the status symbol comes a far second. The RX-8, a great car, deserves a great wheel. If I had an 8, would never throw on a set of Konig's, Tenzo's, etc.... (pretty much any wheel company that makes knock offs). You have a wonderful car, treat it to a nice set of "shoes".

Can you fit 18x9's with +48 offset on both front and rear? I still wanna rotate tires.

PUR NRG - Yes, you could definitly put 18x9 in the rear, with +48 offset, althought you're not going to get a "flush" look as you do in the front. The rear could actually take 18x9 or 18x9.5 with +45 offset. You could even put 18x10 with a +48 or +50 (stock) offset. But if you're concerned with rotating tires, then I guess you could put same size and offset setup all around.

However, I have a suggestion - I'm also concerned with rotating tires. My solution is I'm going to buy Bi-Directional tires with long tred life. Continental, Falken, and Pirelli makes some in 245 and 255 sizes. They have good tred life and they could be rotated around the car.

I've found that the outside edges of front-mounted tires wear quicker, while it's the inside edges of rear-mounted tires. Rotating side to side won't help with that wear pattern--you really have to switch front to back.

By not "flush", do you mean the wheel will look rececessed or stick out?

How did you find all this offset info and what will/won't work for the car?

PUR NRG - I forget to mention that by having bi-directional tires, I plan to rotate the tires in a "cross" pattern; back to front, front to back, but that's if I get the same size Rim all around. If I get staggered size, then I have no choice but to go from left to right. I'm planning to get Staggered size rims.

Also, if wear becomes a problem, you could always adjust the toe and camber to compensate for the wear.

When I said by "not flush," I meant the wheel will recess "in" the fender

Last, I actually spent some time at my friend's performance shop and we mounted various size rims and different offsets to find the best matching set. We also measured the mounting and our conclusion were:

Best Option - For 18" or 19" - 8.5" in the front w/+45 offset, and 9.5 in the rear w/+44 or +45 offset. You could also go +42 in the rear.

sup3rbad - the smaller the offset number for example, +38 vs. +43, the further out the rim sits, which means too much offset would cause your car to loose handling ability and your rim to rub against the fender.

So, the set you want to get, 18x8.5 in the front, should have no less than +44 offset, otherwise with a +38 offset, it'll rub.

You should get 18x8.5 +45 offset (front), and 18x9.5 +40 or +42 offset (rear).
