good hook on drill/slotted rotors

i was looking around for some good deals on some drill/slotted rotors and i found some on ebay. R1 concepts are selling both front and rears for $239. i think its a pretty good buy. here check it out http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33564

They say that they use PREMIUM rotors with a electro-coated black hub. What's that?

Has anyone tried out these rotors? The rotors sound pretty decent given the price of $239 for all four. Let me know if anyone has delt with R1 Concepts or their rotors. If anyone else is interested in purchasing these rotors, maybe can get a good discount if more than one set is purchased.

Me....

I got them about a year ago, when they first appeared on the 'bay.

Mine came branded 'Centric Parts', not the biggest name, but not junk either.

I got just the fronts, and paid extra to just get the drilled, no slots. Didn't want the pads to disappear due to the slicing effect of slots!

I use them just for show, and go back to stock for track days. It's hard to beat stock without paying silly money.

Posters told me they would crack etc., but they are holding up just fine, in fact they came with a little cross-hatched pattern on them, not polished smooth, and the pattern is still there!

Very happy with mine, and would do it again. :D :D

these sound like really good rotors for $239 for the whole set. im pretty sure we can get a better deal if we get a group buy going. Anyone down for a group buy?

do the rotors come with pads? but yeah a group buy sounds like a good idea to me I'm in ... just let me know cause my rotors are worped anyways ... apperntly slamming on the brakes at 130 when you see a cop isn't good for the rotors.

Does anyone have pictures of these rotors installed on their 8's? I came close to buying them off of ebay when they first showed up there, but chickened out at the last minute, not wanting to buy trash if it ended up being just that. But lets face it, a spotless car with rusted rotors sucks.
Can anyone supply pictures?

well i got a response from R1 and everything sounds good. he sent me a pretty big pic too. heres wat they had to say:

Attached are the pictures that you requested. The rotors are
cross-drilled, slotted, and electro-coated black.

The black coating on the rotors will prevent the hubs and the inner
vents from rusting. Please also look closely at the slots that are on
these rotors. Unlike other sellers who use the rounded slots, our
"Diamond" slots have proven to increase gas dissipaton.

Please let me know how many buyers are interested in these rotors on
your forum. I welcome all forum groupbuys. If you have 5 buyers, I
will offer you $25.00 off the entire purchase.

I can also provide rotors that are cross-drilled only, slotted only,
or combination of both. I hope that I've any questions that you have.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me and I
will respond to you promptly.

Regards,

Martin Trinh

Go ahead and crack your rotors.

Slots are the only way to go.

No, he specifically said

will offer you $25.00 off the entire purchase.
For 5 buyers, that means you get a whopping $5 off each!

Now, I suppose if you gotta have drilled, you don't care about the engineering compromises inherent with them, but this bit of BS is disturbing:
Please also look closely at the slots that are on
these rotors. Unlike other sellers who use the rounded slots, our
"Diamond" slots have proven to increase gas dissipaton.
First, "gas dissipation" hasn't been a problem with brake pads for at least 10 years, so that excuse is completely bogus (the number 1 claim for slotted rotors is for better wet weather braking performance). Even if it were an issue, a rounded slot would perform better than a "diamond" slot. Second, a rounded slot will create much less stress concentration in the metal than their "diamond" slot, so the possibility of cracks starting at the base of the slot is higher with the "diamond" slot.

Caveat emptor.

Gordon

naw im pretty sure its $25 off each purchase, so rather than 240 its 215. thats not bad for premium (not oem). i think there's always two sides to things, negative and positive. but crossdrilled/slotted rotors have been around for awhile.

I've also looked searched around for information about their company. They pretty much have good reviews for their company. However, the shipping is another story. Some say that it took a while for them receive the items. Others said that it was pretty fast. Most people were satisfied about the performance of the rotors. I looked around and counldn't find anyone claiming that their rotors crack due to the slots. So I guess its a good buy. What do you guys recommend?

ive looked around and assume drilled aren't good for tracks or high performance, so im lookin at maybe jus gettin slotted.

i was wanting only drilled becuase I have heard that slotted will wear out brake pads quicker.

You got it backwards.

Which do you think hurts a pad more. A slight edge, or a giant cheese grater?

cross-drilled brake rotors are fine for street driving but are more prone to cracking if you're going to track the car.

slotted is the way to go, or like I did slotted and dimpled for the drilled look but the slot functionality.
