Gold Axis Halos for my Sparkling Black Mica RX-8?

I have a 2009 Sparkling Black Mica RX-8. It has massive amounts of gold flake in the paint, which really "pops" in the sun, totally changing the look of the black car. The color of wheels I would have normally chosen for a black car, gun metal, gray, hyper black, I think might look a little odd because of this gold flake. So I've been looking for a bronze or maybe gold wheel that is lighter than stock, 8.5 to 9 inches wide so I can run 255mm wide tires, and is well made.

Most Axis wheels are made by Enkei with their MAT technology, so the hoop part of the wheel is made using their less expensive pseudo-forging process, with a cast face. I like Enkei and their wheels. The Axis Halo in 18x8.5" weighs 19.8 lbs. (stock is 21.5 lbs.). I would get it with the 35mm offset to push the wheels a bit farther out and give the wheels a bit of that concave look. The gold Axis Halo (with black pin stripe) is special edition, so will only be around for a while, so if I want it, I have to act now.

Anyway, here is a picture of the special edition wheel and a couple of my RX-8 to try to give an idea of the gold flake. I have mixed feelings about it. Normally, I'm not a big fan of bright gold wheels (bronze, yes, gold, not so much). However, when I look at the car with all that gold flake, I think it might just look quite good, especially with the black pin stripe and some black lug nuts.

Thoughts?

I looked up a set of O.Z. Ultraleggera's gold painted on a Sparkling Black. And i must say i like it. And plus a lot of poeple have black rims. I think the gold rims will make your car stand out even more in a good way.

if you want a 255 width, get 18x9 or 19x9

That is a very sexy wheel

I've seen this wheel in a 19x9 it looks pretty good-- never seen it on a black 8 thou. IMO I'd go with a more bronze wheel. But I do like the Axis

I think they will look pretty good, but I agree that a darker gold would look better. Send me a PM.

I really like these stock wheels in gunmetal, I think they suit the car well. But I know what you're saying about the gold in the paint. I am really liking those sparkles.....

Went to see one at the dealers recently and in the sun it's very special, yet in the shade looks black and sexy, very nice.

I've gone for the crystal white pearl but I still want the sparkling black too, I NEED BOTH OF THEM!!!!!!!

+1. Gold looks great on some colors, but I think BRONZE looks hot on a black car.

If it were my car, I would go gunmetal.

Either way, if you get a different set of rims. You can sell the ones your on for a lot. People for some reason chase after them..

As one of the only people we who actually owned these exact rims, the pics are a lot "lighter" in color than in real life. The gold is a true gold, which I had on my Brilliant Black, and it was truly an amazing combination.

I miss those wheels though now they have a great new owner (even though he's VR lol)
