Gloss Black RX-8 Rims

Hello,
I purchased RX-8 rims with Dunlop tires from a member of this club. I painted the spokes gloss black with VHT wheel paint and used VHT clear coat. I will install them on my black Mazda 6 Sport Wagon next month when the weather warms up a bit. I can't wait, they look amazing!

I think I would've done them flat black myself, but it looks like you did a pretty good job.

Thumbs up

Thank God you didn't paint the whole wheel black like another I've seen on the forum! That looks pretty good. Nice job. They should look good on your 6.

The masking took a bit of time with the tires mounted on the rims. I roughed up the surface of the spokes with fine steel wool before I painted them with two coats of primer and three coats of gloss black and three coats of clear coat. I had to re-do one because it was to cold in the garage when I painted it and the paint crackled when it dried. They really turned out great, much better looking then the picture shows.

I normally don't like the shinny tire look but with those rims, I would definitely shine my tires up as well.

From your photos it looks like you did a pretty good job masking things off. I would have been way to scared to even try.

Ps. as someone else mentioned, thank god you didn't do a completely black rim. Those always look bad.

Very nice!! Did you paint the inside of the spoke also? or just the face? Also, you should paint the wheel center cap and lug nuts black also. Very nice,

Yes I plan on installing springs, I don't want to lower it too much because I sometimes haul heavy things like Panda Bear our Black Chow Chow. I just installed a CP-E MAFci system, she really flys now!
