G2 BRAKE Caliper PaintSystem

Hey so im probably gonna buy the G2 system, but idk if i need to buy 2. Im gonna be painting the hubs of the car as well... so all 4 calipers plus 4 hubs... something tells me im gonna need 2. Anyone know?:uhh:

krijpipudht 09-06-2008 03:39 PM

I used Dupli color system. 1 kit with 4 cars or 16 calipers and still have paint leftover. Break cleaner last for 2 cars but you can buy one other brand for $2-3.

Jedi54 09-06-2008 04:23 PM

+1 to the dupli color paint. I imagine the sizes are similar, so you shouldn't need 2 cans. 1 will be plenty of paint for the calipers and you should even have some left over for any touch ups down the road.

Mazurfer 09-06-2008 05:56 PM

Duplicolor here as well, and have loads left over. Also....up to you, but I painted my dust shields black!

WTBRotary! 09-06-2008 07:23 PM

Aight so where would i be able to pick up this Duplicolor, in black?

mysql 09-06-2008 07:35 PM

Get G2 if you want it to still look nice in 2-3 years without flaking.

One can is more than enough for all calipers. Should be enough for rotors but I can't say for sure. It will depend on how many coats you apply.

I like to sand down the calipers first then paint. It looks smoother that way.

WTBRotary! 09-06-2008 07:38 PM

well i dont wanta be going back to the store to get paint or in this case ordering it... so i kinda need to know which kit to get... ya know... whats better G2 or duplicolor? whats bigger... all that, i was thinking 2-3 coats for calipers and 2 for hubs

Jedi54 09-06-2008 07:39 PM

G2 and duplicolor are both great brands. you can't go wrong with either one and I don't think there is a "better"

they should be the same size, just get which ever one is available near you (G2 is not sold in stores in SoCal) and you'll be fine

mysql 09-06-2008 07:42 PM

G2 is better. I've tried both.

Jedi54 09-06-2008 07:43 PM

how is it "better"?

mysql 09-06-2008 07:50 PM

MadMaxx 09-06-2008 08:21 PM

My oldest car is a 2000 VW Bora, my daughter is driving, and the breaks still look great.

WTBRotary! 09-06-2008 08:25 PM

Heh so big debate... idk which to pick :banghead: :Eyecrazy:

Jedi54 09-06-2008 08:27 PM

just pick one, they're both great. I read mysql's post, G2 seems to have worked well for him.

I used Duplicolor and YEARS later, they still look awesome. I can take a pic for you if you like, they look brand new.

Honestly, just pick one... :)

WTBRotary! 09-06-2008 08:31 PM

id like to see this pic jedi if ya dont mind :D

Jedi54 09-06-2008 08:32 PM

do you want me to go take one now? car is in the garage with the wheels on.

OR

if you wait till tomorrow morning, I'll have the car up on jack stands with the wheels off

WTBRotary! 09-06-2008 08:37 PM

whenever its convient... no rush my friend... :)

Jedi54 09-06-2008 08:38 PM

I'll send you a pic tomorrow.

quick question: do they sell G2 in stores near you or are you ordering online?

WTBRotary! 09-06-2008 08:49 PM

um, havent quite checked stores yet since i just got my car back today... i gotta take it in again for a new radio for free, but thats another story. Im pretty sure im gonna order from Tirerack, something tells me Autozone/Napa wont have G2... but ill check...

NgoRX8 09-06-2008 10:35 PM

though their stuff is good, they have too small a product line to really compete with duplicolor, krylon, etc, on the open market local retails.

WTBRotary! 09-06-2008 10:47 PM

ahhh, meh well if its better, it wins lol :D

Jedi54 09-07-2008 01:38 PM

here's some cell phone pics I just took... Duplicolor paint FTW.

WTBRotary! 09-07-2008 07:14 PM

looks pretty good Jedi, hey bro so i went today to Autozone, picked up disc brake piston tool and other jazz but looked for the Caliper paint and there was none to be found... i did find that they had Royal Purple 5w-30 oil so i was happy but no RP ATF :(

Easy_E1 09-07-2008 08:08 PM

This is 2 year old Duplicolor. Shines like new and no flaking at all.

WTBRotary! 09-07-2008 09:04 PM

Duplicolor... hmm... sounds real good... well both kits seem good... so w.e is cheaper...

NgoRX8 09-08-2008 01:10 AM

all about prep.

swoope 09-08-2008 01:33 AM

prep is VITAL to how good the paint will look and how long it will last.

WTBRotary! 09-08-2008 09:11 PM

so what? just sand off the calipers and get virtually EVERY SINGLE THING OFF? and thanks Swoope

swoope 09-08-2008 09:46 PM

wire brush, lots of carb or brake cleaner. then a good cleaning with dawn and h20 and rinse..

beers

Jedi54 09-08-2008 09:57 PM

the kit has instructions, just buy one and follow the instructions

ShellDude 09-08-2008 10:21 PM

You should be able to have a local Advance Auto Parts (if you have Advance there) order some RP ATF fluid for you. Did you try going down the dealers list for your zip (increasing the distance until you found one)?

That's how I found a dealer that keeps the ATF MAX instock. It was a 30 mile drive to pick it up.

o yea, lol thanks bro never thought about asking them to order some... nice :D, and as for dawn... your talking about the soap right? :D

Blackout04RX 09-09-2008 08:12 AM

I had used the Duplicolor, and drove with it for two years and had to literally pry the stuff off my old car before selling it. I havent been able to find it in stores near me, but I am ordering it soon online if I have to

NgoRX8 09-09-2008 01:23 PM

you don't have an autozone or pepboys near you?

Jedi54 09-09-2008 01:34 PM

omg, I've never seen SO many questions asked about such a simple process! :banghead:

NgoRX8 09-09-2008 10:03 PM

Blackout04RX 09-10-2008 09:46 AM

Autozone doesnt carry it, I found out the other day when I went in. Now I gotta travel the opposite way to search at Advance

quazmosis 09-10-2008 11:22 AM

I got the G2 from tirerack.com. I think the G2 withstands higher temps as well.

sdoow 09-11-2008 09:56 AM

Those RB rotors look really nice with painted calipers

We have G2 paint kit in stock . RX8 customers who own RB brakes can purchase them at an extra 10% discount off already discounted price.

NgoRX8 09-11-2008 12:23 PM

that's pretty sweet, didn't know RacingBrake carried G2 as well. I just drool over their two-piece rotors.
