Finally, you can remove that tape off your cluster and get rid of that annoying TPMS light if you have aftermarket wheels!

Long story short, I fell victim to the pothole monster and had to have my 2 piece Volk GTS wheels repaired. Knowing that I had to have my wheels disassembled, I did some hard core web research to try and find a solve for TPMS for incompatible wheels. Most solutions I've come across have been a metal strap that is wrapped around the entire wheel. Didn't seem like a safe solution to me.

Can't take full credit for this, as I found it on the G35 boards. I bring to the RX8 community, a TPMS fix for those with incompatible wheels. Primarily made for 2-3 piece wheels similar to my Volk GTS. May work with other wheels as well.

You will need:
OEM TPMS Sensors
TPMS adapter by iForge Wheels - These adapters hook your TPMS sensors to the 90 degree valve stems. They position the sensors completely flush to the body of the wheel. See pics below.





Simply unscrew the nut on your OEM sensors:



Slide the OEM sensor's stem into the adapter:


Screw the nut back on:


Attach the 90 degree valve stem through the wheel and sensor adapter:




Remount the tires and follow the TPMS reset in your manual and VOILA! You have a fully functional TPMS as it came from OEM!

Thanks, the shop snapped it using a camera phone. They were gracious enough to take it, I didn't want to complain. I'll have better pics shortly.

 

Is it possible to do this without fully unmounting the tires, like deflating them? I really want these, but I don't drive very far, so I won't need new tires for a while. Also, I don't want to pay to have them remounted, and especially don't want a shop touching my rims? Would my idea work, or is the above way the only way?

 

I wouldn't recommend it, but it's not impossible. You'd have to break the bead, which may lead to leaks in the future. It would be very tight and tedious for sure, unless you have little hands!

 

What bead? Just out of curiosity though, would having super hard side wall, like steel reinforced, make this virtually impossible to do without removing the tire?

 

breaking the bead is the outside rims of where the rubber sits in the rim... the safest way without problems in the near future would be to remove the tire. Seat the TPMS properly and then reinstall the tire

Two year bump? nice! ha ha. I was going to bump this thread myself since I bought the iforged adapters yesterday. I'm waiting for them and for my wheels to arrive to see if it'll work.

2yr bump I purchased a set of Volk GT-S about 3 years ago but didn't know about the adapter until after the tires/wheels were mounted. Found this thread about a month later and Im now giving thanks to the OP!! New tires will be mounted tomorrow w/ tpms sensors finally!! I don't have to stare at the "TPMS" light on the dash

@RA-Eight (or anyone else who has an answer) where did you send your volks to get refinished? I live in SC and there are no "upscale" tire shops anywhere around here I just know these idiots will end up scratching at least one of them. Thanks for sharing the info.

I had the wheels refinished at a local shop in Columbus, Ohio called Wheel Medics. Great shop, highly recommend them. They went multiple rounds to make sure the finish was exactly what I was looking for. I know they work on projects from all over the country, if you're willing to shell out the cost of shipping.

 

Also forgot to mention, iForge has a beefier version too if your stretching your tires.

I know I'm late to the game here (like kevhonda) but I just found this and this helped push me into (probably) buying some 2 piece Volks. I don't want a flashing light on my dash and I'm way too much of a perfectionist to put some electrical tape over it.
