Finally got new tires!

Hey guys!

I finally got new tires! Ive posted before about how much tire noise i had...so much it was deafening! Well, I got new tires...the best part is that they were free!

..Reward for some web development work! Kick ***. Now, they might not be the best, but i thought that I would share. Hopefully, I'll loose the tire noise!

What do you think?!

Are these one of those Chinese brands that are getting recalled for separating. Better to spend the $ on safety. Not that Firestone was a shady company.

I wouldn't put those on my car. I'd rather put up with the road noise.

BTW I have the same OEM tires as most people here and I really don't understand all the bitching about road noise. I don't have it.

Wrong size - 225/40 instead of stock 225/45.

29K miles mine were unbearable. My daughter wouldn't ride in my car and it was a lot of work getting in her when I got new tires. Talking about Bridgestones not Dunlops.

Compare...

I do realize that it is the wrong size, but when i compare it to what i have now...

...Also considering the fact that all my money is filtered to other obligations, I'm pretty satisfied as to what i got!

agree?

thats secondary to the fact they are garbage tires.

but you are right it will throw the speedometer off and you will accumulate more miles on the car than you have actually driven.

~30k is about what i have heard you get out of the potenzas from more than a couple people. i do know some that have trashed them in less than a third that. I don't know what they sound like at that mileage. Mine are right around 17k right now. I'll let you know if they make it that long its not looking good though.

Lightbulb MATH to prove it!

if you want to get technical...

The stock tire is 225/45 and I got 225/40...considering a new 45 tire...thats a difference of 3/8 of an inch. (the tire i have now and the new on is only 1/4 of an inch difference.

Circumference = d(pi) 19.75(3.1415)= 62.046in per revolution

...1 mile = 63,360 in or 1021.177 revolutions if your traveling at 60mph thats 1021.177 rev/min or 1 mi per min

..if my car's tachometer reads about 1021.177 rev/min at 60mph thats 1 mile every minute or 63,360 in /minute. And, if I know that a 45 tire travels 62.046 in every revolution...

...then 1021.177 rev x 62.046 in =~ 63,360 in (1 mi)

on a 40 tire the circumference is 59.69 in 19(3.1415)= 59.69 in or 1 revolution

...So, if I were traveling at the same rate of 1021.177 rev/min, then:

1021.177 rev x 59.69in = ~60,954 in or 60954 in/63360 in (.9620 mi)

thus I loose .038 of a mile per mile I travel and therefore the odometer adds that to the trip because it thinks its traveled that extra distance when it hasn't.

What that translates into is: if I travel for an hour at 60mph I only travel 57.72 miles.

Come to think of it, no wonder my nav. is a few minutes off when I travel!!!

Hope i could shed some light!

keith

yea, if you had GPS in the car you could see that in real time. I haven't bothered to do the math but I think with my winter tires I am in the area of traveling 51miles for ever 50 I put on the odometer. if you want to speck it out for me the witner tires are 235/55/17. See how close I came just from observing signs on the expressway?

Neither of the tires that they use from the factory would have made 90k. not possible. You would have corded and exploded those long, long ago. with that kind of wear i may believe 50k.

I'm Chinese and I don't trust anything made in China... especially not the most important part of the car. I'd watch those tires like a hawk, visual inspection everytime I get in and out of the car.

You want 225/45s and the SPTs in that size are $99 each.

I wouldn't mind Chinese tires if they had a good reputation, but there's no word on the performance of Wanli low profiles out there and my gut feeling is it won't compliment the RX-8 very well. It's not that I don't trust Chinese tires, I just am conservative in my tire choice. I wouldn't mind the Federal 595RS for example and that's a Chinese tire, but the Federals have a reputation at least.

Federal is a Taiwanese company, not Chinese, to be technical. As to the origin of tire made, it could be China/Taiwan/etc.

For your own safety, do not skimp on tires. Those 4 small contact patches are what kept you in control of the car. If price is a factor, go with Sumitomo/Fuzion/Kumho, which are all quality brands offering peace of mind at fraction of price.

Guess which part of China I'm from, the little island or the big blob of landmass?!?!?

For the sake of this forum, let's not get into THAT argument.
