Well I guess supplies didn't last. I just received my tires today and I guess a lot of people saw the prices and purchased them.

The Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec tires is exactly what I am looking for.

Are they in the same price range as the 615's?

Well, Tirerack have been playing around with the prices on the Direzza Z1's that are going out the doors.

Prices go up, and down, up and down.

This morning, the 225-45-18's are down to 128$. plus 50$ mail in rebate.

Tirerack is not selling the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec tires. They are selling the regular " Direzza Sport Z1". The Star Spec heat up faster so they are better in colder conditions.

Besides they are all sold out of 275/35-18.

.
MX is quite long in the tooth. by the time you're ready for a new set, the Kumho Ecsta XS will probaby be out. make sure to check it out; it was rolled out at SEMA last year. this is Kumho's long-awaited answer to the Azenis pretty much stealing all of MX's glory over the past few years. I haven't seen any pricing, but I have to imagine they will keep it below RE-01/Advan Neova levels.

i looked at the website and you're right, it's not there; a little surprising, since the rollout was quite a while ago already. There was a long thread on SCCAforums.com in the Autocross boards about it. i'm sure you'll find some references if you Google it also. Or you could post a query to the Tire Rack guys about expected availability.

What are you looking for in a tire? They are not the same kind of tire by a long shot. I can give you an honest opinion on the Invo.

I'm looking for a great performing tire for mostly the street. I do plan on autox/tracking my car, I just don't know when. I pretty much want to know which one is best for both street and track.

Well the RT615 was made for specifically that, street/track. The invo is just a nicer street tire. Invo is better than the stock Dunlops in the wet by a long shot, but barely if any better in the dry.

I have ran RT-615's on my last 3 cars and absolutely love them. I have at least 4 car buddies who have driven my cars that have put them on their own rides.

Quality + price = fun

The only down side is the tread wear but because of the cheaper price I easily over look that aspect of it.

Whats your driving style and plans for the car?

Spirited driver- RT-615's
AutoX'r- RT-615's
Granny or fanboi- anything else

well i have 9.5 in the rear and looking for replacements for the t1r's i have now.

Found some 255/40/18 falken 615's for 334 shipped (2)

Found some 275/35/18 nitto invo's for 435 shipped (2)

not sure which way to go but from what i read the invo is better for street and rain weather.. which i dont really drive my car in the rain and i need something sticky in the rear as i replace tires once a year anyway. i think i will go with the falken's.. cant beat that price :P

Bump!!! RT-615 FTW. They are hardly in the same class. However.... the INVO will last much longer on the street. On very slick roads like here in San Antonio ever ounce of grip I get is a +. so for me there is no contest. I dont think there is a much better decently long.... (with a grain of salt) wearing tire then the INVO.... If you like the INVO the T1-R should also be considered.

so you are saying the T1R and the Invos are similar...? Why I ask is because I currently have the T1R, but are looking to go with the Invos. Anyone have any experience with both?

I use these tires for daily drive and track days, they are awesome and cheaper than the tires you provided
The 595RS-R has a lot more grip than the RT-615
and the most important is these tires dont get overheat, the RT-615 on the track gets too hot and loss grip right the way bad bad tire for track

The 615s get so much shine because they are CHEAP, and like most things that are CHEAP, they are given a "pass" on what is a sub par racing tire. I use to run them and thought they were the sh*t... Until I hopped in a car riding on some custom made QTP styled Hoosiers and from then on I moved past.

It already has a tread wear of like 200 so just do yourself a favor and buy something else in that range or lower whether it be one of the Advans, the r888s or the NT-01s.

But if you just want something to beat on and then drive around all the time and know you can pick up a whole set for around $600. 615s are perfect. (Think, beginner tires. akak "Look dad, my first racing tires!") If you are more serious about hitting the track or got more dough, look a little farther in the tire band.

I'll say +1 on the NT-05 as well.

^ You can not compare R compounds to street tires. Best street tires are RE01R, Z1 Star Spec, and RT615.

My reply to the OP got jumbled with comments made by other members. The 615s were awesome street tires that you could take and casually drive on the track, but unlike what some where saying it is far from a "track ready" tire. Perfect for drift, cheap to replace and nice and slippery when pushed... But if the op has plans to really push his car he either needs a second set of tires or a better tire all together.
