Extended wheel studs

I picked up some 7mm spacers (Powered by Max) for my new wheel setup, but lo and behold, with the spacers, the lug nuts only grab about 4 threads. That is obviously not safe.

Now I need to get extended wheel studs to run these spacers.

I need some insight on differences of wheel studs.

I found these Ichiba ones (50mm):

http://www.ichibausa.com/ProductDeta...tCode=MZ-12550

and these Gorilla Automotive ones (2.25" end to end):

http://www.gorilla-auto.com/washers-wheel-studs

As you can see, the Ichibas have a knurl of some sort, and the Gorilla's don't...

Which ones do I need, or can you suggest a cheaper alternative?

Thanks!

I just want to make sure I order the right ones, since one has a knurl (bolt head) and one doesn't?

APR is way too expensive, almost twice the price of Ichiba and they look identical.

Are you planning on running the extended studs in the rear? If so it's quite a task to swap them out..Any chance with your new setup you have the space for a set of 10mm project kics with pressed in studs in the spacer? If not Ichiba are the studs you want.

I bought 7mm to really dial in the poke without stressing the setup.

I think 10mm might be too much.

I plan on running extended studs at all corners.

I wouldn't be doing it myself, my performance shop would be doing the job.

Ichiba it is, thanks!

Sounds good. As long as they have heavy equipment to press out those rear bearings your good. Looking foward to seeing the new setup.

My new wheels are on (19x11 +25), but I really want these spacers on. I also need to lower the car again, it's sitting in 4x4 mode after putting on the new setup.

I've been running ichiba since my old wheel setup. They are only big in the Nissan arena.. I've never had problems with mine.

I think you will be in for quite a surprise when you get the quote for how much it will cost to change all the studs. Its not exactly a quick thing. Not to mention its pretty difficult to do it without ruining the bearings in the process.

Well I don't really have much of a choice except not running the spacers

One of my stock rear studs is crooked anyways :/

I'm checking into ARP studs now, but I have no idea which one to get since they don't sell an RX-8 specific model...

A lot of Miata, Protege, RX-7 FC, and FD guys use APR 100-7708 for "Late model Camaro, Firebird, Corvette" which are half the price of the Miata ones and fit just as fine.

Can anyone confirm if RX-8's are a match to other Mazdas (in front and rear)?

Not sure about the shoulder of the stud going into the hub but the threads are the same.

edit: Found this on napas website. It may help with shoulder diameter and length.
http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Ca...RecType%3aA%29

They don't have a listing for the front that I was able to find quickly but its probably the same.

The knurl diameter of the Napa part is 13.08mm and the ARP Camaro stud's is 12.9286 mm.

I would understand if it was very slightly bigger it may not be an issue, but very slightly smaller... ?

Although, the Miata (94-05) ARP front stud is 12.8779 mm, which is EVEN smaller than the Camaro one, and the Miata (94-05) ARP rear stud is a whopping 14.7066 mm!

Last post Team says he used the arp miata ones with a part number. Given what he does with his car, I trust his judgement.

After some self deduction through Napa's site and RX7club.com:

The RX-7 FD guys use the late Camaro ARP studs, and by checking the Napa site for the replacement wheel stud, the FD and RX-8 share the same part number (FD is same for front and back). Thus by deduction, the Camaro stud should work on the RX-8. I think the only difference with the RX-8 will be that the new stud will be shorter in front vs the back (i.e. the stock front bolt for the RX-8 is longer than the rear).

But I want to run the Camaro/Firebird/Corvette studs. They're 1/3 the price of the Miata ones and you get one more per pack.

My garage is an authorized ARP dealer so I'm gonna see how much it is to get locally before I buy online. I don't feel like waiting a week for them to arrive...

Picked up the studs locally, getting them installed Thursday along with more camber, more low, and an alignment.

I'm gonna try to be straight forward and attack the problem right and remove the hubs right away and use a press for the studs as opposed to wasting time with any other methods, like a hammer or shaving bolts.
