Expectations of KDW 2's

Hey guys I just put the g-force 2 KDWs on the rear wheels of my 8. I still have the stock tires on the front but I will be going to Jersey for a month and was wondering what kind of perfermance and grip I can expect from these rear tires in the snow.

Horrible. They are like skis in the snow. Mine could barely get traction in an inch of snow in a driveway a couple weeks ago.

I'd suggest snow tires of course, but if you are only going to be in Jersey for a month you might get lucky enough to avoid too much snow. Sorry!

Having two different types of tires from front to rear can't lead to predictable handling.

We're supposed to get 4-6 inches of snow here tomorrow night, which will very likely head right in your direction shortly afterwards.

Believe me, NO form of summer tire, no matter how new, will give you anything approaching a safe level of grip in the snow. Even if it's just light powdering. Not only is the tread pattern going to be too broad to displace any snow, the rubber compounds used will lose all flexibility at those temperatures thus causing you to lose even more grip. Please be careful.

**edit**
I've had two different types of tires on this car before. As long as the tires on the rear are in equally good, or better, shape that the front tires, you'll be just fine. It will just cause you to understeer a bit at your handling limits (kinda like a 350Z). I actually felt more secure with that setup since it was almost impossible to generate any real oversteer.

I would agree that the mismatched tires are not that big of a deal, it's not like they are mismatched by side, it's fronts and backs. I was just trying to get a reaonable idea of what it may be like as I'll be spending a month there. Hopefully it just won't snow very much.

Thank you to 1/2 of you for your useless post-count adding crap.

I have the KDW gforce's (the ones with the funky tread). I haven't had a problem with them. To me they've been great. Even autox'd with them and they did pretty good. Don't know about snow (probably won't go out), but I might be finding out Friday morning.

All 4 for me as well. They are "do-able" in wet snow, but it's knuckle whitening. 2nd gear starts help. DSC helps as long as you don't kill your momentum with it. Getting the hang of how much throttle you need is the key. Stockers on the front will take away all of your steering ability though. At least, if they are the Potenzas. Regardless I wouldn't really recommend it.

Am I the only one who thinks it's weird using HIGH performance summer tires in the snow? Are you looking for an accident? Of course they're gonna perform bad...... it's for wet and dry ..in the summer...not winter

Thank you Hybrid, like a classic canadian you don't help anything. Yes I have high performance summer tires, but that is because I usually spend my time down here in Melbourne FL. I'm only spending about a month in Jersey, it's not like I'm moving back there. Plus I don't exactly have the disposable funds for new tires. I'm a student, and I've worked very hard just for the car.

Dammit, a couple days ago it was only supposed to be an inch. Now they're calling for 4-6 inches. Looks like I'll have to wait a couple days.

Definitely wait until after the snow storm. We're supposed to have a warmer patch to melt some of it off. Never drive in the snow with the stock tires and the KDW's, unless you REALLY have to. Maybe some slush, but little enough so that you are still contacting the pavement. Drive only on roads that get plowed. Basically, do what you can to avoid driving on snow while up there (forget about ice.. instant slide).
