Angry Chipped rims

Just last week, I noticed that my rear-right rim had a scrape on it about an inch long and a half-inch wide. It's near the middle of one of the "spokes" (not sure what else you call those), so it's not on the edge where it could have been scraped by rubbing the curb. So I'm guessing a rock or some other hard debris struck the rim while I was going 80+ on the freeway.

Then, today, I noticed I have two more spots, on the front-right rim. These two are in the same area -- the middle of a spoke. They're each about the size of a dime and separated by about an inch.

So WTF? Are these rims just soft or is something else going on?

You may have scrape them somehow, maybe a high curb. Do you do parallel parking often? Anyhow, the scrape can be repaired by sandblasting and sanding the rims down to remove the scratch and repainting them. That costs about $100 per rim. Ask local tire shops to see who they send their rim repairs to or check yellow pages under wheels - repair.

or lightly sand the area and get some sunlight silver touch up paint for the 8.

it takes a while. works very well. you can see the repair, but you have to know where to look.

I scraped a big stone curb the other month. I wasn't sure what to do about it, so I took some fine sand paper. That didn't quite achieve what I wanted.

A week ago, my friend sent me a link to a tire scuff repair howto. While I haven't tried it, it seems like it is worth a shot.

I've also got a couple of small chips from where a rock may have hit my wheel while driving. I plan on trying this some day. Just have to find the time...

right rear rim gets it pretty bad. I have about 3 now. I hate it coz I could have avoided them just by being careful.

Had my first scuff over the weekend and I'd like to thank robertdot for posting that link. That is what I need. Heck, the scuffs on my rims look the same as the pic on that page!
