Just curious if the stock tires would fit on an 18x8.5" rim. I would like to buy new rims but don't want to spend the extra G note on tires. Will these fit or is the rim too big?

Well, the approved wheels for a 225/45-18 tire are 7-8" a 8.5" wheel is really not ideal for that tire size and out of spec... Your better off with a 245/40-18 on a 8.5" wheel...

 

Adding, on to my one-word post, I've seen applications in which a 225 section tire was used on an 8.5-inch wheel. For example, I believe drift machines use such setups.

 

I think it depends on the tire. Go to www.tirerack.com , find the tire your interested in, click on "Specs", and look at the "Rim Width Range". In 225/45-18 I found one tire was 7-8" and another was "7-8.5".

I ran 225/40-18 on RH XD 8,5"x18 on my M3 Euro -94.
It was ok,but I would liked to have 235 or 245 if there where space for that.
The biggest problem was that the rim was exactly as wide as the tire,and the rim had no protection when parking and so on.. 2 years and the rims lookes like S...!

 

My 04' AT came with 225/45R18 Dunlap's on stock rims.
I wish they were a bit wider (245/40) to protect the rims from curb rash.
I have read (somewhere) that 245/40's will fit the rear but 225/40 is the max for the front.
I'm not sure if I was given the correct information.... perhaps someone in this forum has
actually tried 245/40's on the front rims : )

 

My car ran on 245/30 20"(!!!) in each corner before I bought it,but those 3Keuros was a bit to much for a used set of wheels..

 

on my 93 rx7 when i had the stock rims, i ran 245s all around

 

Bridgestone specifies 7.0-8.5 for the 225/45-18 tire.

 

I assume you're talking about the RE-040, in which case you are correct .


However, Bridgestone specifies 7.0-8.0 for the 225/45R18 Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position with UNI-T AQI.

I all depends on the tire model.

Just the information I was looking for!

I just ordered 18x8.5 wheels for all four corners and was hoping to use the stock tires until they are used up before spending additional money on new tires.

From personal experience, because the RE040 has the tire protection lip, it does just fine on the 8.5" rim. I just didnt like the look very much, but the lip is not exposed with that setup.

i've seen 225s on wider wheels for drift set up cars... so yes... and shelleys_man is right.

 

Good to know that it will work ok. I was worried about how it will look too, but I have to save money somewhere!

 

I double check with Bridgestone centre. It does work

IMO it is waste of money to trade in the 90% tyre (even worse if 50%). I rather use it out and then change to a 245/40.

Another set of rim is a must now. Not for the look but to have an extra set of rims for a set of semislick. I know I have talked about it for so long.... I am still waiting my very fat bonus and tax return

It's gonna look weird with a profile of 45 too.....

It's just not really a good to stinge out on the tires guys...
